Favre talking about signing with Vikes

One of the keys will be whether Childress treats him like a diva, or cracks his nuts when he gets stupid. Sherman, and to a lesser extent McCarthy let Brett have what he wanted and didn't chew his ass out when it needed it. Favre maybe to far gone ego wise to put up with in your face, but it's what he needs to excel. He can't help himself to not throw the duck or the bullet into triple coverage, but he reins it in when his coach is all over his ass. With the dome for 1/2 his season, and only real possible cold weather game, the Bears in December at Chicago, there is a real potential that he will be the last piece of the Viqueens puzzle after all these decades. Damn, it hurts to type that! As a Packer fan all my life, I'll always love what he brought to the Pack, but he's a purple Queen now, so like any other Queen I hope he gets his ass blown up every game. :D

So as long as you can stand and they'll sign you you should play?

It's all about the money? Nothing else matters? Go out pathetic but go out richer?

If AZ doesn't win the NFC, I'd like to see the old man back in a SB. They're probably a better team with Favre, but a Minnesota SB will be tough. Favre needs to baby his arm AND win home field advantage. I don't think he can travel to NY, Philly, Chicago or GB and win in the playoffs. Not to mention AP needs to stay healthy.

I agree i would LOVE to see favre win, even over my steelers, he is one of the guys i grew up on and got hooked on football because of. People are to quick to rake him over the coals, no one will ever beat his 17 straight seasons of starting every single game, he is a warrior flat out.

Well, if he can stay healthy, Minn has a legit shot at the SB. No one has really mentioned their D but they are solid. Against the run, they are the BEST. So you take a very good defensive team with the BEST running game in all the NFL and throw in a QB who, if healthy, can be a top 5-7 QB in the league and you have all the ingredients for a winner...on paper.

I agree minnesota has the best front 4 in all of football with Jared allen and the williams brothers on defense. Favre will open up the game to adrian peterson so they cant just stack against the run like they did last year, i think we are going to see a totally different favre (when he is healthy) and right now i would have to say flat out that the vikings HAVE to be favourites to win the Superbowl. The vikings were third in the league last year in defense (if im not mistaken) and top 10 in rushing with no QB to open it up for adrian Peterson.

Its business not religion.

Better play your ass of, Brett. I'm pretty sure the Vikings consider themselves a contender for the SB this year and if you play like you did the last five games of last year, the team will turn on you and you'll be sitting the bench your final year in the NFL.

What two knowledgeable NFL people described earlier this week as an "issue" in the Minnesota Vikings locker room was described Wednesday by a third informed person as a "schism."

Vikings DE Jared Allen discusses Brett Favre's impact on the Minnesota locker room. He says Favre's preseason start was surprising, but was appreciated by the team.

The issue is quarterback Brett Favre, and the schism is the preference that certain Vikings players have for specific quarterbacks.

Sources with knowledge of the Vikings locker-room dynamics say some players believe Tarvaris Jackson gives the Vikings the best chance to win, while other players believe Sage Rosenfels gives the team the best chance to win -- which is one of the new twists to this storyline. In the words of one NFL source, Favre has "little support" in the locker room as Minnesota prepares for its Monday night preseason game against the Houston Texans.

Favre, who signed only last week, struggled in his one preseason appearance but could easily win backers with improved performance and victories. But as it now stands, one NFL source said these locker-room issues stem back to long before the team signed Favre, and it's possible they will not be going away any time soon unless Favre can completely silence them with his play.

Vikings coach Brad Childress was even asked Wednesday about the speculation.

"I've seen the same reports you've seen," Childress said. "Those are opinions. It's hard to shoot holes in an opinion. It's just that -- an opinion. I certainly don't see it."

Asked if he addressed with the players that friendships must become secondary to winning, Childress said: "I think all of them will cite that business is business. Whether they like it or not, that's the way it is. As I told Tarvaris, 'I don't expect you to like it.' He's a highly competitive guy, and he came back and played very well. That benefits him, that benefits us. There's no downside to that. I don't expect those guys to like it. But I expect them to deal with it and go forward. And by and large, that's exactly what's happened."

If Favre plays well, it's possible the issue could be silenced and the schism could evaporate. But it's also possible that if Favre struggles, the drama that accompanied his entrance will only increase, threatening to affect the Vikings' season and Childress' future.

Please don't take offense, I love a good sports discussion, but I have to say that at this point, your Super Bowl fav pick may be informed by your heart as well as your head.

Favre needs to maintain a very high level of play for the entire year and just on paper, the chances of him doing that are moderate at best. I agree that he has a good team around him, but I don't think they're the favourites to win at this time.

I do understand where you're coming from; I'm a massive Tiger fan and so I always see every tournament in terms of his presence in it.

If AP can stay healthy I think the Vikings are contenders. With a strong D and with superman as your RB, all Favre has to do is manage the game and inspire a little confidence in the troops. To hell with all his scar tissue. The NFC should be interesting this year.
