Fasting as 'an amazing way of life'.

That is Dest's point that that abstinence ("that stuff never made it through my door") is easier than moderation for most.

Many foods cannot be moderated so better to eliminate them initially until you can bring them back in controlled. Still it is easier for me to not eat sweets for a while than try and get away with 3 Oreos. (3 fricking Oreos as a serving size... who the @#$% are they kidding).
Point taken. But I think dest was talking about food in general (fasting) rather than food choices in his reference to abstinence. Perhaps I'm mistaken. It was the fasting component I was referring to in that post. But the "through the door" post referred to junk food, which has no real place in a good dietary regimen. So why would you want to ever bring them back into a diet at all? Once you're off them, you're free.

Dest, you're the science guy. Please have a look at Dean Ornish's TED talk when you have the time and tell us what you think. I posted it earlier in another thread:

I'm assuming keto, paleo and Atkins are largely interchangeable. Would that be right?

There are plenty of simple carbs in Paleo. I don't know how they limit them, but berries? ALL fruit is Paleo. OK, so when we lived to an avg lifespan of 22yo we ate berries. There is phytonutrient-benefits from fruits, but you've either got to take the hit from VLDL intake to get a meaningful amount in ORAC.

I'll watch but I have no respect for the guy. He's largely responsible for that Snackwells garbage in the 80s.

T-day was rough. Wife and her mom are gourmet and the gravy was amazing. I went off an (almost) two month keto due to the mashed potatoes and stuffing. I don't even want the turkey. We had an Amaretto cake and I may have eaten 90% of it. I told the family that Steph's mom binged on it. 100% false.

Then the potato pancakes for another week.
I tend to overeat when I'm hungry; it almost becomes an emotional experience.
:)

Fuck it..I went to town on T-day as well as holiday party this weekend. I am out of the country starting next Sunday and doing a strict week I will carry over Xmas and New Years so I start new year in a good position and shed a goal of 10 pounds next 3 weeks.

I did the old overdose on food these past two weeks and now sick of it so quite ready to trim it down.

Yeah, it's intake more than choices. Autophagy is moot if you activate digestion. I attended a TED-like talk at UCSF for practitioners and the speaker was convinced that a legit 5/2 fast undertaken at 50 would add 10 years.

Just the memory of it has me drooling uncontrollably.

Thanks, I'd really like to know what you think. As for the Snackwell thing, I don't know about it or the guy's association with it. But Ornish recommends whole foods and not refined carbs.

Yeah, I don't think he had any direct association but the fat-free movement was attributed to Ornish, rightly or wrongly.

Can you provide a link? I could always use an additional 10 years.

Autophagy is THE goal of the true 5/2 fast. The weight loss is the perk. Drop a few cals her and there and you can reduce weekly cals by 30% or more. Maintaining that 8/8 cutoff helps as well.
