It would be regretful if anyone knew about specific incidents beforehand but did nothing. But perhaps you forget that around 5000 Christmas markets take place each year in Germany and that there are around 20000 trucks on the roads in Germany at any given time.

I appreciate your well wishes and wish you the same, but would urge you to accept that some issues are highly complex and that you can see that rather than wanting to simplify everything just so that it fits into our small human brains.

You neglect the role of a government.
In one EU country, in September, the authorities were informed that primary schools were going to be targets : immediately, security plans around each school was put in place; these security measures making it hard for any attack.
Governments jobs is to get things rolling for masses of people. So I'd disagree with you there.
