Europe Socialism vs. American Socialism. Europe for all, America for a few.

Thats because the US government is king in fudging the numbers...:p

We also incarcerate -by far- a higher percentage of our population than any other industrialized country.

That, along with having a large active military... and then look at U6 unemployment figures... and guess what? We're up there with Spain, maybe even worse.

Quote from makloda:

Every country in Europe that I am aware of is treating "professional trading" capital gains as ordinary income. Even though some countries do not tax capital gains you will still have to pay (sometimes sizable) income taxes, depending on how much in trading gains you have.

Liechtenstein, Monte Carlo, Cyprus, Andorra and possibly Malta are notable exceptions.

Taxes in Europe are generally bad, especially for higher incomes. This is nothing new. It doesn't stop there. Indirect taxes are out of hand. Europeans created a system of clever indirect taxation of sugar, insurances, champagne all the way to an entertainment tax.

For higher tax brackets, if you earn 300,000 EUR a year in countries like Germany, Denmark, Sweden or France it is likely you see your government taking a 50-60% cut, leaving you with less than half. Then you are nailed with indirect taxes on your consumption. Another 10% of your gross income gone. You end up paying 70% of your annual income to the government. It used to be called communism, now it's labeled "putting the weight on the shoulders of those who can carry it".

It's a paradise if you're an unemployment married couple in your 30s with five children. Nothing to worry about then. European governments take care of their loyal sheep from the crib all the way to the casket.

Many of those who can take off. UK (nondom taxation for foreigners), Monte Carlo, Caribbean, Switzerland (lump sum taxation for foreigners), Dubai et. al.

I'm a Dutch citizen and I pay absolutely zero in taxes on the money I make by trading.
The rule here is that everybody has to pay 30% on a "fictve" income of 4% on his capital. That makes 1.2% on your capital. What you really make doesn't matter.
That for me, in my circomstances, is the only taxes I pay: every year 1.2% of my total net worth.

In the UK about 70% of convicted criminals re-offend and that's the ones that are caught !
Obviously a great big re-think is needed. The present system of sending them to jail for a while is hopeless. Many come out having learnt to become more sophisticated criminals. Prisons are aptly named the Universities of crime.
Some consider wrongly in my view that they have repaid a debt to society when the reality is that they are a massive burden on the state's resources.
Sooner or later a politician of strength will hopefully emerge to tackle this situation. The old Christian philosophy of forgiveness is wasted on such hardened villains.

Prison mainly should be for violent offenders. Others should be put into activities that recompense back the victims OR strip them of their citizenship then dump them onto some deserted island, etc.

We tried that in 1492 but they regrouped.

Quote from jueco2005:

The main difference between American and European Socialism is the coverage.

Europe's socialism works because everyone is part of the system.

America's socialism is way different. It only covers a small % of the population at the expense of the majority. The SHEEPLE pay for the socialism of the few rich bastards.

"...The Soviet Union, China, and Eastern Europe have given us the clearest possible proof that capitalism organizes the material affairs of humankind more satisfactorily than socialism; that however inequitably or irresponsibly the marketplace may distribute goods, it does so better than the queues of a planned economy; however mindless the culture of commercialism, it is more attractive than state moralism; and however deceptive the ideology of a business civilization, it is more believable than that of a socialist one ...."

Sure there have been others over time but anyway...

I do agree europe has had a failed integration policy that has come back and bite the old continent in the ass but in reality integration of minorities is or has been a problem around the world and the ultimate solution has yet to be found.
