Ensign will blow your mind---you can do anything you want and program anything you can imagine. The owner of it helped me program my stuff.

Go to Ensign Softwares website download it and use it with the DTN back fill (you can hook it up to esignal). It is free for the first 30 days. 40 bucks thereafter. dirt cheap for the money. I thought the IB feed with Ensign would suck but know I run it across multiple monitors. It is way more cusomizable than CQG and I actually like it better in many ways --especially when it comes to customizing indicators. It is not perfect like CQG ----but for the money ---it is beyond GREAT IMO. Try it out and you may find you like it better and can save yourself a bundle in quote fees ---until you make your first nut.
 
i dont know why everyone has such a hard on for cqg. its like not a post goes by without someone saying cqg!

sure its good, but i dont think its necessary unless you are a high volume scalper with a direct line into the mothership.

how many of you really give a damn if your feed is 1 second slow? does it really make a difference? as long as the execution platform is upto date and you aint getting slippage, can you live with it?

and another thing.....

sure i can understand the anti esignal stance though. if you pay you should get a good/reasonable service, especially when there are loads of good providers around at less cost.

although its worth remembering that cqg will also lag at times - because of the nature of commercial/residential isp's and the internet. theres little most can do about that unless you do have a vpn or something.

Maybe your asking them for help in a different way then I have. But I asked help for some simple shit several times. Stuff that would take them minutes to figure out and I either didn't get a response or they give me a list of their paid programmers. Their DYO and functions which they use can be cryptic, try programming using their stuff from scratch and its a mess.

Otherwise it's good for the price.

CQG does allow Tick charts. Aside from Aspen Graphics, CQG is arguably one of the best charting programs.

And their data is second only to Bloomberg.

CQG is totally unecessary unless you have a 6 figure trading account. Or a high 5 figure account that you sweep weekly. (ie you are profitable) The yearly outlay is simply unjustifiable on a percentage basis. Especially in light of the QT, Ensign, Sierra, IB combos which are hassle free 90%+ of the time

So why use it? That 10%

You pay for headache free data that does not go down. Ever. Only you can determine what that is worth.

RedDuke, if your Esignal Eurex feed is NOT lagging, or error prone, DONT CHANGE ANYTHING on your rig. This is incredibly rare.

Esignal barely makes $ sense with a yearly subscription. Month to month?

No way!

Also, IQfeed is a sleeper company in that they do not have the marketing machine that Esig does. Esig gains customers by having parent IDC buy up competition.

But Iqfeed has about twice the number of customers as Esig.

Disclaimer. I use CQG, and Iqfeed. Among others.

I found Esignal useless for Dax trading.

I did not dare trade HSI futs with it.

For US equities it is acceptable. Emini ok.
 
Just use IQFeed. That's what I use and it works very well. Quite fast at refreshing symbols, not to mention a generous 500 symbol limit for $20.

Hi Aok,

Can you please explain why. I have e-signal as charting and use NinjaTrader with TT feed (PATS backup) for placing the trades for DAX futures. I did not see discrepancies between my DOM and e-signal details window / charts. If there is an issue, I sure would like to know what it is.

For my part, Dax data was consistenly latent (2-5 sec) and error prone. Or just simply... down. Or frozen for 30 seconds. :eek:

Contact with customer service to resolve issues, I would have been better off talking with a camel. Always on my end. My isp, my rig, this, that.

I try not to bad mouth product or companies. Esignal is a lot like IB. Either hit or miss.

For US equities in terms of price/benefit, Esignal month to month is a single. Yearly price? it's a double.

On overseas futs, for me it was a strike out. Unreliable. Slow. Frozen.

I tried them because they were one of the few data sources to include HSI. CQG does not. So figured why not throw in Eurex too. Plus it could back up IB data for those exchanges.

Nightmare. For me. Maybe it works for you.

If it works for you, do not change anything on your rig. Resist upgrades as long as possible. And triple check Esignal data against your broker quote/dom.

If you are trading for points, this is probably not a big deal. If you scalp multiple contracts for ticks, it is.

Thanks. Like I said so far the feed was pretty good no problems and not a single freeze.

I go for points, but not many (4-6), so real time up to second feed is very important to me.

If things work fine, I try not to mess with them, but always on the look out for better options.

Competitors are focussing too much on ESignals obvious defects of poor reliability, overpricing, and annoying pricing tactics (just about everything is an extra with an extra charge).

If competitors want to take business away from eSignal they should also work harder at making 3rd party apps compatible with their feeds. This seems to be why many who hate them stay.

A second strong point of eSignal is supposed geographic coverage, but the fact is the reality of trying to trade with this data means it is just a marketing gimmick. I had Asian feeds that were corrupted/slow to the point of being unuseable (so I cancelled - FYI it felt REAL good to dump them and their ignore/blame the customer attitude.).
