Newbies remember to check with your broker before you start trading today. The margin requirement on a day like this can be changed anytime without notice.

e.g. ES with $500 daytrade margin can be increased to $1000, $1500, or even full overnight margin.
 
OEC has changed margin to:

Due to current market volatility the day-trade margin has temporarily been raised to 50% of the overnight exchange requirement.
