Every mainstream media source including our local news forecast states it is being investigated as a hoax. They list numerous facts on why it is a considered a hoax in their reporting.

I have always stated that you need to look at the facts in the news media reports and then understand the bias of the source. In this case both left-wing and right-wing media sources plus all the local Chicago media sources are all reporting the same thing. It is shameful how the police chief tried to back-step and spin his way out of the problem -- his assertions did not help --- and he is now in deep water with many on his own force who are disgusted with his statement which undermined their work and the facts.

The two men — whom police have identified only as Nigerian brothers — were picked up at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on Wednesday and taken into custody after returning from Nigeria after police learned that at least one of the men worked on "Empire," according to Guglielmi. He said he did not know what the man's job was on the television drama.

This case was always a joke. In the end though some good will come of it, as it'll knock a big chunk out of the narrative that gays and minorities are under constant violent attack by Trump supporters.

At least when you read between the lines, I have the sensation that far fewer people fell for this one versus the UVA rape hoax - the big exceptions being celebrities and Democratic politicians.

On the negative side when an actual attack on a gay man occurs now -- nobody will believe the attack was real. Smollett's fabrication is a disservice to all LGBQT people.
