Yes, let's ask the guy to apologize. To be honest, his remark was hurtful to Elon, but also understandable. A guy who builds rocketships suddenly is in the submarine business.
It was only hurtful because his charade got exposed for what it was and it bruised his ego. Let's not try to make it sound like there was good intention other than capitalize on the news cycle.
Come on now, why not both? Sure, they would have loved to save the kids. Except there was plenty of hubris, so their effort was misguided and ineffective.

OK, let's change it to a more common insult, mofo. So if I call you a mofo in a debate, that is one thing. But if later I INSIST that you are really a mofo because you still live with your mom, and you were holding hands with her and such AND I hire a PI to prove you had sex with your mother, would that change your mind about me?

Disgusting. No, its a deep insult of the most gross kind, which he broadcast to the entire world while sitting in comfort on his fat behind. And the context was that this guy was trying to help save the lives of a group of young boys. Which he did. At some risk to his own life - remember a Thai diver died in the rescue.
But Musk was trying to help and wrongly thought he was being ignored and had the way to save the children, hence the arguement.

Nobody took went out, thinking the diver was an actual Pedophile therefore no actual harm done, everyone gets it's just banter in the heat of the moment.
He wasn't trying to help. There are a dozen things he could have done to help, with the resources he has available, but he didn't do any of these. And of course he could have done all this good work in anonymity.
In fact he wanted to ride the publicity of the boys' plight because it was a big story and he has a big ego and thinks all the world should listen to Elon Musk.

We don't know if he did provide other resources or not, only aware of the mini BS sub.
