Election 2024 Foreplay

Well yeh, they thought of everything except they were not always geniuses and did not escape that old human tendency to learn by screwing up too.

As I said, I am little hazy on some of this but if memory serves, the process for settling the outcome of votes that we have been discussing was actually their second bite at the apple, ie an amendment to the origional scheme. Under the orginal constitutional scheme, the electoral college made the candidate who got the most votes for president the president. And the candidate who got the second most votes for president became Vice President. That turned out to be a disaster because the president's political opponent became their VP. Think Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. Fugly man, absolutely fugly.

Then later there was a constitutional amendment making the presidency and the vice presidency two separate electoral races. In other words the vp was the winner of the vp race and not just the first runner up in the race for president.

They had to do a little clean-up on aisle two there.

Lol, Veep covered that too.
Apparently it was the 12th Amendment, which became superseded by the 20th.

What happens when there's a tie?

Everybody goes online to try to find out
what happens if we get a tie.

Way ahead of you.

Shit, I'm just getting how to tie a tie.

Is there a book? Like an old-fashioned...
Like a paper book?

Jesus Christ, you know?

You do your best.
You try to serve the people,

-and then they just fuck you over.
- Yeah.

And you know why? Because they're ignorant
and they're dumb as shit.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is democracy.

God damn it.

It's the Twelfth Amendment.

- I have Twentieth Amendment. Yeah.
- Why are there so many amendments?

Get it right the first time, people.

It's actually both.
Twelfth is superseded by the Twentieth.

They give the House until January 20th
to elect the president.

Each state gets one vote.
First candidate to 26 is the new president

and the Senate chooses the VP.

It's a close election
with a ton of House races too close to call.

- What happens if it's a tie in the House?
- Right.

Is it a dance-off?

Well, vice president-elect becomes president.

Whoever the Senate has picked for VP
will be president.

Lol, Veep covered that too.
Apparently it was the 12th Amendment, which became superseded by the 20th.

Each state gets one vote.

Whoa, just think about how the ones who howl over just the Electoral College would howl over that.

So for example, Maine gets the same vote as California or New York.

Awesome. As it should be.

Lots of bad polling news rolling in.

Joe looking good today.

What does that mean to remain where they are.... really tough to get a gauge from a poll without knowing the framework of the questions... salaries have increased obviously in this inflationary environment but most people I know are spending way more money and then claiming they are struggling.

Overall the economy is measured with bull shit macor factors so I dont know if the economy is doing amazing or horrible because to put it bluntly we are a consumer economy so no one gives a shit what we produce...only what we buy and we will see that this Xmas shopping season.

Suffering in an economy is extremely subjective when we dont know if they asked upper middle class or middle class people in the poll or measured earnings of the lower class compared to what standard of living costs are versus their growth in earnings. Obviously people laid off or who cnat find work naturally are struggling.

But I sniff a bunch of entitled polled people throwing in some political bias or ignorance on finances in their answers.

People blame the president for high gas prices so that could afffect answers but gas just dipped nicely...did Biden do that? restaurants are more expensive but eating in is still relatively cheaper.
