I think you are letting your political ideaology "cloud" your thinking here. These are the facts, we were attacked, not once, not twice, but several times, and each time we really did nothing. Then they struck and killed 3000 americans and now we realize that sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

so who do we attack for those 3000??? iraq had nothing to do with it. are you suggesting wholesale war against islam???

US history has already proved that the only way this country had found to solve its problems was violence.
Try to forget for a while all deaths that resulted from this culture of violence and think of this poor child who went to bed and never woke up just because some stupid and under-cultured american politicians had decided his country had to be bombed. This child had asked nothing : neither from americans, neither from integrists. He is dead for nothing, and even if his death has saved thousands of potentially threatened lives in the US or somewhere else in the world, it's not worth, really not worth.

In case you haven't noticed, we're about the only real military superpower around with army, navy, and air force capabilities. Throw in the biggest & baddest toys, and we're pretty much kicking a wherever we go - as long as it is against a real army.
Problem is, that we're never going to be up against a real army, because we would just take them out like iraq retreating from kuwait in desert storm. Terrorists are now the new armies, and we're not yet great at dealing with them. We have a military built for conquest, but not for dealing with the police state aftermath which comes with regime building.
Get one thing straight - these people want to kill you because you threaten their way of life and ideology. They know that they have lost, so there is a desperate attempt to stave off the inevitable through escalating terrorist attacks. They will become bolder and more spectacular as their cause wanes and their failure is more apparent. You cannot contain fanaticism. You can only eliminate the fanatic. In some ways, this is actually a good outcome for all parties - they assuredly go to heaven, and you don't have to worry about them any more.
If you leave them alone, they will organize so that they can kill you. If you try diplomacy, they will lie to you until they can kill you. If you threaten them, they will run away until you drop their guard and they can kill you. If you mollify them, they will take your gifts and use them against you so they can kill you better. In short, all they want to do is kill you. How can you fight such an enemy? You must eliminate them. Simple as that.
The why, how, were and who did what is poppycock. It doesn't matter to them - they just want to kill you.

damn, i thought we went in there to save them from the evil madman. instead we brought more suffering and occupation.
the only fanatics i see are bush's cabinet. i say take them out and poof.....problem solved. not sure if they should be tried here as traitors or at a world court for war crimes.
i have an idea, lets label them enemy combatants and then they have no rights whatsoever. yeahhhhhhhh..i like that one.

DOn't try to make us americans out as bad people...we did not start this war...we did not strike first...but as history has shown we will be the last to strike. As for violence solving problems...well it worked pretty well in WWII, Worked ok in Korea, Desert storm I got the job done. Some times you have to fight fire with fire.
I don't like war...but sometimes it is necessary. As for the innocent casualties of war they are without a doubt a terrible affect, however, they are untintentional you will never find americans soldeirs targeting innocent civilians. On the other hand, it is the stated policy of our enemy to attack and kill all infidels woman and children included. Rooting out these extremists will make the world a safer place for all. You can't argue agains that!
