The problem is there are way too many fanatics running around on all sides. The only link between them is oil. The reason why we make up all these fantasis to invade other nations is the caspain sea and it's immense as yet unproven reserves of oil and potential for unlimited LNG for the booming Asian markets. In the next decade, just China alone will require more Oil than what the US consumes.

Looking at that map, and that tells you pretty much what the theatre of operation is.

It's all about the oil and the old men whose dynastic fortunes depend on oil wealth. If they can control the Caspian sources, then they effectively control most of the future oil flow like they do the present ones.

The "old white guy dynasty" dictates which way the "oil wheel" rolls. The rest are all tiny spokes in that wheel. Big difference. With the fantastic breakthroughs in technology, if the "old white guy dynasty" wanted everyone to use alternative energy, we'd all be using alternative energy.

However, the more the energy market fragments, the less of it he can control. So we'll never have alternative energy till the last drop of oil is burnt up. It's all about oil.

We have great intelignece services, we simply became a little too reliant on technology, and got away from Humint. I have no doubt we are back on track. As for your second assumption...it is fatally flawed...have you forgotten the fact that the iranians put korans in the hands of children and had them walk across mine fields? They care very little about life.
