Eating Healthier

Strictly a personal perspective...

In my experience, "trying" to eat healthily doesn't cut it. I committed to eating healthily a couple of years ago and ended up seeing my abs for the first time since I was nine years old (over 50 years ago), even though I've always been a "thin" guy. I find that people don't even recognize how MUCH they are eating sugar and (empty) carbohydrates...every time they consume orange juice, white rice, white bread, traditional pasta, a soda here, a cookie there, a candy bar, hot potatoes...and on and on it goes. Once I cut out ALL this stuff, I got my six-pack back WITHOUT having to exercise.

Good + great points.
NOt sure i would exclude orange juice@ all, even though its easy to over do it/LOL
Amazing how much refined sugar + sugar % they inject\jab or force feed in foods now\LOL:D:D
NOT a racial statement but my parents , also did not like white bread much:caution::caution:

Today Target had one single bottle of blueberry hint, which I purchased, of course. It was nothing special (in my opinion) but at least it didn't have a "funny" taste (like the blueberry lemon).
Correction... this was blackberry—not blueberry.

Lazy Acres Natural Market had coconut hint the other day, and I thought it had an interesting flavor when I first took a sip (sample) right after leaving the store. However, when I took a second gulp later in the day, I came to the conclusion that I didn't like it after all. I still held the same opinion when I finished the rest at dinner time. I could definitely taste the coconut, but I also detected other weird flavors that were not at all pleasing to me.

How does inflammation defend against injury and infection?

During inflammation, the blood supply increases, helping carry immune cells to the affected area. Because of the increased blood flow, an infected area near the surface of the body becomes red and warm. The walls of blood vessels become more porous, allowing fluid and white blood cells to pass into the affected tissue.

Why is chronic inflammation bad for you?

Left unaddressed, chronic inflammation can damage healthy cells, tissues and organs, and may cause internal scarring, tissue death and damage to the DNA in previously healthy cells. Ultimately, this can lead to the development of potentially disabling or life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer or Type-2 diabetes.

INTERESTING, + that sounds a lot like what exercise does, except its helpful, even walking.:caution::caution:

BLOOD SUGAR AND RUMORS VS RESEARCH STUDIES

A study in Japan has shown that xanthan gum-based fluid thickener can lower blood glucose levels after eating.

Sorbitol, less commonly known as glucitol, is a sugar alcohol with a sweet taste which the human body metabolizes slowly.

Sugar alcohols, including sorbitol, have been shown to benefit oral health in several ways, primarily because they are noncariogenic: in other words, they don't contribute to cavity formation. The act of chewing also protects teeth from cavity-causing bacteria by promoting the flow of saliva. The increased saliva and noncariogenic properties (along with sweetness) are why sugar alcohols (sorbitol and xylitol) are used in sugar-free chewing gum.

Sorbitol may be useful as an alternative to sugar for people with diabetes as it significantly reduces the rise in blood glucose and the insulin response associated with the ingestion of glucose.

Xylitol is a natural sugar alcohol occurs naturally in some plants, including many fruits and vegetables. It has a sweet taste and is often used as a sugar substitute. Though it looks and tastes like sugar, it has 40% fewer calories.

On the other hand, researchers suggest that using mouthwash at least twice every day destroys "friendly" oral bacteria, which can, in turn, alter blood sugar metabolism and promote diabetes, particularly for people who are already at high risk for the condition.

Consuming ginger regularly helps in reducing the blood sugar levels and regulate insulin. Take an inch of ginger and bring it to a boil with a cup of water in a saucepan. Simmer for 5 minutes and strain. Drink this 1 to 2 times daily.

Peanuts and peanut butter have even been shown to help lessen the spike in blood sugar when paired with high-carbohydrate or high-GL foods. Peanuts and peanut butter are both low GI and GL foods, as they contain healthy oils, protein, and fiber that have a positive effect on blood sugar control.

How is sourdough bread more nutritious than whole wheat?

Screenshot_7.jpg

Sourdough is a healthier alternative to regular white or whole wheat bread. Although it has comparable nutrients, the lower phytate levels mean it is more digestible and nutritious. The prebiotics also help to keep your gut bacteria happy, and it may be less likely to spike blood sugar levels.

However... though sourdough bread can boast a low Glycemic Index, better digestibility and an increased nutritional profile, whole wheat has been known to have increased health benefits due to its higher fiber content and nutritional levels. Whole wheat breads generally have a far higher fiber content than white breads, because it includes the bran part of the wheat (which is where all the fiber is). Fiber helps keep you regular, and feeling fuller for longer.
