But since the R's keep lying about massive fraud, there's probably a fear that they will continue this deception and attempt to fabricate or plant evidence. The longer the delay, the greater the opportunity.

Ok, let's wait for the recounts to finish. If there is a substantial difference between the automated count, and the manual count, then we'll have to finish this line of reasoning.

Imo:

But the scanners aren't sophisticated. They aren't communicating with each other, or via the internet. The worse they can be mal-programmed to do would be to get the count wrong.

And of course, just like in the movies, that mal-code would be programmed to self-destruct before it could be found.
