Don's openings Part 4

it seems to me that you want a large enough print so that the specialist has to reach for shares in the case of a long.if he has to reach for shares it seems like he would be more likely to make the first print more extreme to ensure he can replace those shares at a profit or if he has to short to fill the order he can cover at a profit.tia

We generally just concern ourselves with the overal average trading volume of the stock (1Mil shares minimum daily). This way, the openings that we want to participate in will be a large enough number to move the stock price to a point where we can make some money on the reversal. You have the concept figured out well it seems.

Today was an exact break even....I got out of AOL too soon again (damn, damn)....but with the slowness of the day, that's ok....next week things should look better......

Anybody have CAH on their list and get a fill today? I had an order to short 1000 at 64.75 and got filled at .80, but only 100 shares. Anybody ever get a partial fill like that? Kind of a rip off since the stock tanked a buck.

It opened at yesterday's closing price exactly...so you were not necessarily entitled to the whole amount, since I assume that the .80 cents was an uptick from the prior day. This happens rarely when the two prices are the same.

Explained to the "boot campers" about the seasonality and bias before the opening (along with the lack of volatility), so we lowered our envelopes to .75. I was 3 for 3 today about $1400.

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Opening orders.

Got .40 out of SBC, scratched VZ at .00.

Had the buy waiting for VZ at +.30, but it didn't get that far and fell pretty quick.

Actually, there was bad news on telecom, BLS, so the whole sector was weak. Lucky I didn't get scorched. Gotta watch that news.

both fills were long.

Good Job Tony....get the share size up when you're comfortable (help pay for this darn "learning curve")...

OK, 3 for 3 this morning. I got out of Citi too early, but still managed about $500.

When you're playing a "newsie" type stock (like Citi this morning), be sure that you watch the actual "dollar" amount it opens down, not just the fact that you bought it. I didn't pay any attention this morning, but it opened way too low, in my opinion, and I should have held on for a bit longer.

Keeping it simple...take the profits...

Everyone else??

placed my buy on citi too low and did not get a fill. Always careful with the newsie stocks.

2 winners out of 3 fills, net gain .37. Held BP to long but got out before it tanked to bad. The other big oils were doing better than BP so i did not cash in when i had a gain. BP then droped and was a loser. I held until the S & P futures started to tank and got out just in the nick of time.

3 winners, 1 scratch, 44 cents total.

Considering that volume was still down this morning, and the SP gapped way down but still went sideways for 20 minutes, I was glad to have made the .44.
