Thanks again. I would like to learn and know more about controlling and improving HBP (high blood pressure).

I am wondering whether HBP would be related/ associated with trading activities.

Elevated blood pressure (hypertension) is one of the symptoms of Metabolic Syndrome which, besides robbing you of all your bedroom glory, leads to heart disease and stroke. Having your blood pressure just slightly above youthful 120/80 values leads to greatly increased risk of heart disease. In fact, one 2006 study found that readings of 120-129/80-84 led to a 180% greater heart disease risk probability. So, unless you're suicidal, this needs to be priority number one for you. [6].

High blood pressure is also associated with "brain damage". Of course, high blood pressure is associated with strokes. In addition, one large study of 999 men found that "cross-sectional measurements at age 70 showed that high 24-hour BP, nondipping, insulin resistance, and diabetes all were related to low cognitive function". [10]

High blood pressure is the main risk factor for strokes and researchers are also finding now that it is even a risk factor for Alzheimer's, although they don't know why. But decreasing systoloc presure by 10-12 pts or diastolic by 5-6 decreased risk of stroke by 38% on one study.

Jack,

I'm deeply grateful for your response. The book is under way.
There are some passages in your post, I couldn't understand. I'll try to digest it with a fresh mind tomorrow morning. Thank you for your generosity. I guess and hope there are a lot of lurkers waiting for a solution to their problems.

Agreed. Thanks, Jack.

Thanks guys. I think lacking of sufficient sleep could be a major factor/problem for some traders.

For many, many reasons:

Lack of sleep has been shown to lead to delayed response times. Lack of sleep also whacks the hormones.

Also, most researchers believe that one of the primary (if not the primary) purpose of sleep is consolidation and implementation of memories.

Lack of sleep also leads to increased appetite, which is deadly long term, increased cortisol levels in some people (deadly to the brain) and insulin resistance.

If you're a good trader, then pick your best market and stick to it. Don't trade night and day and fry your health and brain. What's the point if you're not around in ten to twenty years to enjoy the fruit of your labor?

Don't you want to trade for decades to come? Don't you want them to be interviewing you like they interview Buffett? Well, it ain't gonna happen if you're fat, overweight with low testosterone/growth hormone coupled with little to no memory and a few steps away from six feet under...

Buffett is sharp as a tack. What are you going to be like at his age?

True, and thanks again!

I think it's time for ET to launch a (Traders') Heath and Lifestyle & Leisure forum covering a variety of practical topics.

The vast majority of people could not care about their health. They are nothing more than slow suicides, Roman Candles waiting to burn out in a decade or two...

They will not change their diet. They will not exercise. And they will die...

By the way, exercise is INCREDIBLY good for the brain. I cannot emphasize that enough...

"This is the true purpose of these turning points and wake-up calls: They are attempts to initiate a powerful process of self-renewal, to point you in the direction of your true destination --- not a new road, or a new/ improved map, but a whole and awakened you." --- Barbara De Angelis (PhD; Psychologist)

Good idea. And thanks ShoeshineBoy. You make a compelling case for sleep. Health, Lifestyle & Leisure, Trading Plans, Business Plans, learning to learn...This thread is covering some basic essentials that don't get enough attention IMO. I paid no attention to these topics as they relate to trading until recently (and that explains the screen name :D).
