No one forces you to read or participate in this thread. Baron does not have a responsibility to vet anyone anymore than your local newspaper or a TV station. He's just a content publisher monetizing via ad revenue.
Well, to be fair, in terms of trading educators and mentors it's pretty hard to defend the indefensible - which is the vast majority unfortunately.
Yes, the question of honest and effective trading education is very much suspect and deservedly so. Buyer beware.
It's also a shitty feeling when you take on a client and find out that he/she is lazy or looking for an easy solution to make millions without much of an investment in time and effort on their part. I vet prospects carefully and I turn down as many as I take on. I just don't want the aggravation and quite frankly the disappointment.
For myself, the best thing that I have chosen to do is to make sure that I screen prospective clients carefully - and then put them in touch with former and current clients so that they can contact them on an independent basis, ask questions and make the best informed decision for themselves. I've found that successful and happy clients are the best gauge for prospective clients to judge if a trading system and mentor might actually work out for them. Now, that's just my own decision and I'm not making any judgements or value statements. I've had a couple hundred clients over a period of several years who are also ET Members, and that's just how things have evolved for me personally. I've never intended to have any sort of highly publicized trading academy, or had more than a few students at a time - I still am an active trader.
I'm speaking only for myself here. YMMV.

Absolutely. The industry earned its bad reputation.
But vast majority doesn't mean everyone, and this is the point I was trying to make. People who really want to become better traders and are willing to pay for their education, should do their due diligence and see who they can trust.
