WHO is looking at a world-wide perspective. How many years (decades) did it take to control measles, mumps and other infectious diseases from world-wide perspective? Even after vaccines were created it took decades. Of course in wealthy, western countries the vaccines were easily available to get these diseases under control quickly.

Now where do you get the idiotic assertion that the Democrats want to be locked down for 5 years. From public health perspective in the U.S. the plan has been a 60 day lock-down followed by a phased re-opening with clear entry/exit criteria at each stage.

Not to worry. Extreme liberal states are already going bankrupt. Democrat governors by colluding trying to destroy the US economy to destroy President Donald Trump's re-election chances, has successfully, destroyed their own states economically, from which they may never recover from. California has a $54 billion deficit and Governor Gavin Newsom has cut state employees salaries 10% so far, cut funding for pensions of $2.4 billion owed to Calpers he will not pay, and tax increases coming up the pipeline. Oh, never forget the jobless rate. California has 4.3 million unemployed now, with more and more people filing for unemployment benefits. Extreme liberals who voted for Governor Gavin Newsom are probably, ecstatic. Imagine, they are that much closer to a communist state. Congratulations for a job well done. Pretty soon, California will now be known as Commiefornia. Now, that is truth in advertising.

Democrats even at the lower level bureaucrats have turned into petty tyrants going after average US citizens, levying fines, having people arrested. People should start suing everyone of them for financial damages and maybe, they will come to their senses. They have no intention of opening their economies any time soon while, begging the Federal government to spend $1 trillion to bail them out of their ineptitude? Let them tax their extreme liberal voters up their noses. They deserve these Democrat politicians and whatever they get in terms of higher taxes and huge job losses. After all, they voted for these Democrats. Oh, let us not forget, these same Democrats have no problems doling tens of millions of dollars to illegals (foreigners) while, their states go bankrupt.

Once again lets go through the purpose of a 60 day lockdown when facing a novel disease with no vaccine or effective treatment. This was explained weeks ago.... let's see if it sinks in this time.

Let's review the 5 points of why a lock-down period is necessary again:
1) To prevent the overloading of hospital resources - where the number of COVID-19 patients is greater than capacity to treat them.
2) To provide time to obtain the necessary number of COVID-19 test kits and get a testing process in place to meet the necessary capacity for re-opening.
3) To get proper Contact Tracing in place for COVID-19 prior to re-opening. This includes getting the necessary systems in place and getting people hired for the positions.
4) To reduce the effective infection rate (R) to below 0.8 in a community before opening.
5) To reduce the total number of infections in the community to reduce the number of vector starting points when re-opening that must be traced and quarantined.
