The only thing Newsom can destroy is California. How is California homelessness going? Crime in California? Poverty? High taxes and regulatory burden? How is California’s “Disease scene” going with outbreaks of hepatitis A in San Diego County, syphilis in Sonoma County and typhus in Los Angeles County? Monkeypox soon to be on the list? At least no polio from that other Democrat state, New York. How is it that neighboring states are enjoying higher rates of growth in spite of less favorable weather than California?
Does Newsom want to do for our country what he did for California? Or does the DNC feel Biden is doing a fine job on his own?

Let's hope for the health & safety of those in Florida who are in the hurricane's possible path. Several ET posters are located in Florida. Sadly under DeSantis any state government response to an emergency is likely to be underfunded, uncoordinated and underwhelming.

This is a bit over the top (on par for GWB posts). But its certainly concerning here as for flooding and storm surge. Though the storm is scheduled to weaken considerably and won't be anything like it could have been (at Category 2).
Still, Florida has the best emergency response programs and organizations in the country, because sadly it has had a lot of practice.
He'll likely grovel for FEMA welfare like he did last time.
While Florida may have a history of dealing with hurricanes -- the state went from 2005 to 2017 without a major hurricane. Effectively the state response capabilities got lax over time. DeSantis took the added step of reducing emergency funding in the state -- vetoing $1 Billion in 2021 that would be supplied by the Federal government for an emergency response fund because it would require a properly documented grant process rather than him freely handing the money out to his political donors. Of course, Ron DeSantis was quite proud of "vetoing $1 billion for an Emergency Response Fund lawmakers set up to pay hurricane recovery grants more rapidly after a major storm instead of waiting for FEMA reimbursements" -- all because he couldn't use it as a slush fund.
Naturally DeSantis' cutting of Florida's ability to perform an emergency response was not limited to the $1 Billion, he also vetoed funds for emergency radio systems and other equipment from the state budget -- basically removing funding to cities and counties to handle emergencies where DeSantis viewed the local politicians did not sufficiently support him
At this point -- Florida is basically dependent on begging the federal government to handle the post storm emergency response --- which is exactly what DeSantis wants for his political posturing.

From the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund (FHCF) 2022 Final Report:
Even after the projected ultimate loss payments of $9.25 billion from Hurricane Irma in 2017 and Hurricane Michael in 2018, the FHCF remains in good financial condition with a projected fund balance for the 2022 season of $12.6 billion, which is primarily due to eleven consecutive years from 2006 to 2016 with no losses and prior to multiple events beginning in 2017 with Hurricane Irma. In addition, the FHCF has $3.5 billion of additional liquidity from its Series 2020A pre-event bonds for total liquid resources of approximately $16.1 billion, or $900 million below its maximum statutory limit of $17 billion.
