DeSantis for the win

I'd like to thank GWB for giving me this idea. A stroll down yesteryear of all the hyperbole and ridiculous statements posted on this very thread about how last summer was going to end all life in Florida as we knew it, and how - at the end of the day - it was all wrong, overblown, overhyped and hysteria. Just like I said back then.

Why is this important? Because this time is different, right?

From GWB on June 26:

Florida adds another 8,942 new COVID-19 cases, breaking single-day record again
Friday's report of nearly 9,000 new cases caps weeks of record-high jumps with 8,942 being the highest ever.

Oh noes!

Hey, Florida maybe you should rethink this DeSantis thing , he might not know what he is doing. You probably would have been better off electing someone found drunk in a hotel room with a male prostitute and a bag of meth.

This chart looks a little stale now that a whole bunch of other states also had jumps, some much larger, only a few months later. Why? DeSantis of course!

El Ocho told me this when I mentioned 28 states had a higher death rate per 1M pop than Florida last summer:

Even Fauci said death rates lag cases by up to 2 - 3 weeks. I do not think DeSantis or anyone else should be celebrating anything just yet. With the way Corona works it is way to early to take a victory lap.

Today FL has a better rate than 25 states. So in his defense, it did get a tad worse :)

GWB on june 27:

In Trump's must-win Florida, Covid-19 takes the lead

Florida reported nearly 9,000 new coronavirus cases Friday, shattering its previous daily record

I love the article shrieking words like "shattering" in there. Of course months later, some states shattered Florida's numbers, but whocouldanode??

My county has 1,000,000 people....very well populated for not being a city:

10,906 cases 383 confirmed deaths

We fucking crushed it.

My State has 1600 confirmed deaths...my state fucking crushed it (sad for those who did die).

BUT.....FL, AZ and TX where things were...shall we say more lazy, are now starting some spiking and it is making our state nervous and roll back some of the freedoms we fought hard to gain by quarantining...

Can we get an update to the above?

More coming...

As for out of work, a short period lockdown follwoed by CDC guidelines would not have led to putting so many people out of work. First of all many were put on unemployument simply to claim benefits as employers did not want to carry salaries for 2 months....

...Most countries in the world put in place a lockdown of sorts for 2 months at most. we are going to be entering our 4th month of a convulated disorganized mess where Karens and Kevins throw tantrums at stores about wearing masks claiming their rights (fucktarded argument) and people back in April were saying fuck Corona they are not going to change their VACATION plans.

Some great older posts. Memory lane on media hysteria:

Hahahaa....

Not sure why FL hospitalizations aren't trending like TX. I know it's unsustainable here, it does make me think the FL numbers are suspect.

Florida's new coronavirus cases break record, nearly tying New York's peak

LOL...until New York hit winter and blew FL's 11k out of the water.

Sweeps the sunbelt! Please note this article was from 7/9/2020 but the hysteria could be repeated today. Is, actually repeated today.

Let's see what the residents of Florida think...

Will Florida’s COVID Gamble Drag Down DeSantis and the GOP?
One of the most infamously lockdown-skeptical governors in America is dealing with a spiraling pandemic and political problem

GOP won FL. :) So nope.

This thread is PURE GOLD. From Covertibility:

Trump won by..what was it? 3?

Followed by GWB right away:

Biden expands lead to +13 over Trump in Florida, where Gov. DeSantis is now underwater thanks to a 31 point swing since April.

Then Ricter came in :)

DeSantis gets credit for curtailing nursing home visits. Yes, he won that battle. But he has lost the war. Overall, too little too late, particularly since he had other states' experience to learn from.

NH visits were a battle. The war is FL vs. the novel coronavirus.

Yeah, and then later, the real war went up north!
