T, its easy for all of us to look back and say this is what he should have done, kinda like the stock market lol. The reason I think he dropped the ball is he was hell bent in opening, had total disregard for the severity of the situation and didn't err in the side of caution, trying to suck up to Trump didn't help as Trump led him down the wrong path. That's all. That's pretty much all that is required to drop the ball and lose the WAR.
Hell when this started I was in his camp, it's just a flu, it will be over soon etc. but i shifted and hit the bid on that right away. He kept the stock until it hit zero bid.
If we're being political, he should never have aligned himself with Trump - of that there is no doubt. And there were a lot of things FL could have done better in reporting - still can do better. I don't disagree with any of that.
But I think he reopened us as he should have. Hell, I'd have advocated for more of a Sweden model and not closed. I think we made decisions based on flawed data and I still believe that if we weren't in an election year, or if there were a Democrat President, this would have been handled much differently, favoring the economy and not a shut down. The numbers just don't support it any other way.
But back to DeSantis, do you remember how the media said that Florida was going to be the next Italy? How we were going to see 430,000 hospitalizations? How we were going to be overrun, etc? They were shouting this at everyone back in the beginning of April. That never happened. It WILL never happen. At the time this thread was posted, in May, DeSantis held a press conference showing all the forecasts that the media and "experts" told us would happen. They never did. We're not even in the same solar system as the carnage they predicted. And don't say "not yet!" because it isn't even possible statistically speaking.
That was when I created this thread and that was the point I was making with it back then. Since then, Florida has messed up many things and DeSantis' leadership has been definitely subpar. But lets blame the man for things he can control and some things are just Florida.
GWB is so determined to not be wrong about his earlier calls that he will go to
any length at all in spamming about how everything is DeSantis' fault - no matter how illogical it is. He does the same thing on Sweden. You can't show him any data that might be positive, he doesn't look at it objectively but launches into a foaming tirade about how bad things are, frequently using hyperbole to accent his points and then never admitting being in error when shown clearly he was. I can provide many links where the guy made an obvious error and then went silent when shown the error. That's not someone who debates honestly.
This is why the thread as devolved to where it is.
