I believe we are allowed to have practice as long as the kids remain 6 feet apart.

No games... no scrimmages. Its better than nothing but being that kids have not died from covid in San Diego... I think the kids should be able to compete... if they wish.

Amazed you had soccer practice. They canceled all sports around here. My kid has been sitting on his ass all day. I've had to put a physical regimen in for him every day, which he hates.

This is going to have long lasting and serious impacts to our kids. And it didn't have to be this way.

I don't really care what you think, gwb. You've shown yourself not to be an honest debater in this thread, and frankly, on this entire topic. For example, you're saying that elective surgery doesn't fill up ICU beds. Well, no one said it did. We were talking about ALL hospital beds.

Here is Florida's ICU Headroom. You will, of course, note that 57% of the ICU beds are being occupied by non-Covid patients. Here is the source.

It is probably true that there are some hospitals that have all ICU beds used up. Some only have 7 ICU beds (some in W. Palm Beach for example). So I'm not surprised that all the beds are occupied. Moving a patient to a hospital with more capacity isn't unheard of.

So where are is COVID ActNow getting their data in view that the state of Florida has not released any information on ICU beds filled by COVID patients; nor hospital beds filled by COVID patients?

Moms everywhere are talking about that. I was just dosed with those fears last week at soccer practice.

I said was I happy that our kids were not wearing masks and sucking in fibers and bacteria and that I was a happy the school board might not require masks in the fall.

I broke the damn. parents went off. some fearing Covid and their kids bringing it home to them....

some saying this shut down made children depressed and suicidal and we have to let them learn as they used to. They had horrific stories about friend's kids.

I had no idea so many kids are seen as at risk by parents.

I will note that founders and team members from COVID ActNow have criticized states that are less than transparent with their data.

Their data source for hospitalizations and ICU for Florida are datafeeds from the https://floridacovidaction.com/ website created by Rebekah Jones which includes data feeds for information collected from AHCA (Agency for Healthcare Administration) including a data feed for hospital bed and capacity data. The feeds provided from her website are described at https://floridacovidaction.com/library/

The primary issue is that AHCA attempts to gather the most complete information it can from counties and hospitals -- but can only get data from counties that are providing the information in Florida or medical institutions are providers of information to AHCA.

It would be much simpler if the state of Florida (DOH) would provide this data as DeSantis committed to do last week but failed to do. Florida formerly did provide this hospitalization data until they fired Rebekah Jones. She pointed out that one of the reasons she was fired is because she resisted removing the hospitalization data from the state portal. After DeSantis was questioned by reporters about the hospitalization data which went against his narrative he demanded that it be removed from the state portal -- which led to the firing of Rebekah Jones.

And now every media outlet, every information outlet, and research outlet is using her data sources as the primary ones representing the state of Florida and ignoring the information presented by the DeSantis administration.

having lived through what you’re experiencing let me share some of what I observed. 1. After weekends and holidays reported cases, hospitalizations and deaths will be lower then catch up by Tuesday or Wednesday. 2. Hospitalizations are a leading indicator for fatality. If your state provides information look at the age of persons hospitalized, as the age increases (and they will) the fatalities will rise. 3. After you reach peak hospitalizations fatalities will continue to climb for weeks.

lots of things are obvious and some aren’t. Here, in the northeast, we had Covid spreading for a few months starting sometime around January. This was before we even began testing but we didn’t see an overrun in hospitalization until late March and into April. So it is likely the sunbelt is seeing what we saw but they have testing available when we didn’t. So they may be seeing Something similar to the early spread we didn’t detect. Which is good. The problem is we didn’t peek in fatalities until April or May.

What I’m saying is places like Florida, Arizona and Texas May be a month or more away from peak hospitalizations and a couple months from peak fatalities.
