DeSantis for the win

I hear you. And your point is well taken. Deaths could still rise, and it could possibly get really bad. But I don't think so. Again, I don't think so. What I'm tired of is blatant, slanted and misleading rhetoric designed to make a man look bad simply because the people who bet against him aren't yet correct. With each day that goes by and things don't get bad (deaths) the rhetoric gets louder and louder. People in this thread have been saying "death rates lag two weeks" back at the end of May, and here we are at the beginning of July.

I am perfectly willing to admit my error if it gets really bad and there are a lot more deaths. I hope this doesn't happen - not because I don't want to be wrong, but I'd rather people not die!

This should be the position everyone takes.

If DeSantis did his job properly then Florida would not have to worry about increasing cases and deaths. At this point this is about the complete failure of his administration to do even the basics to protect public health — instead he faked data to drive his re-open political agenda. This is the result of that. The criticism of DeSantis is well deserved.

Let's take a look at the latest example of poor leadership by DeSantis. It seems that the only adult leadership in Florida is coming from the local city and county politicians.

Miami Shuts Beaches After Governor Scoffs at Virus Tactics

Miami is shutting its beaches to try to stem the spread of Covid-19 just hours after the state’s governor dismissed the need for changes to Florida’s virus strategy, highlighting the tensions among policymakers over how to respond to the record increases in new cases in the U.S.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez announced late Friday that the city’s popular beaches would be shut for the Independence Day holiday weekend. Texas and Florida earlier had halted drinking at bars to respond to a jump in infections, primarily coming in Sun Belt states whose governors were quick to reopen businesses over the past two months.

In Trump's must-win Florida, Covid-19 takes the lead

Florida reported nearly 9,000 new coronavirus cases Friday, shattering its previous daily record and prompting Gov. Ron DeSantis to pull back on his full-speed-ahead economic reopening strategy.

The spike in infections has framed Florida — a must-win election battleground for President Donald Trump — as a state that is losing control of its pandemic response even as it prepares to host Republican National Convention events, including the president’s speech, in August.

Florida on Friday morning reported 8,942 new coronavirus cases, a more than 60 percent increase from the previous daily high set June 23. The state’s rate of positive tests was nearly 15 percent, a multiple of the daily norm just a few weeks ago and an indication that the jump in cases isn't tied to increased testing alone.

On Friday, DeSantis again declined to issue a statewide mask order even as localities such as Palm Beach, Leon and Hillsborough counties rushed to impose them.

So because you can't explain the difference between Canada and Florida it has to be manipulation on the part of Florida.

Please go back to the feedback forum and threatening to sue Baron. That's about the limit to your intellectual prowess.

I haven't mentioned manipulation in Florida in any of my posts, nor have I said why infection counts in Florida are so huge. My guess however is too many people in Florida aren't taking the virus seriously and taking precautions like wearing a non-medical mask and practicing social distancing. Note I said guess but your posts do paint that kind of picture about Florida.

When it comes to intelligence, let's be real here I rate Mensa level and am highly educated ( one of the top STEM programs in Canada ). My parents, my siblings, my wife, and my kids are all highly intelligent by any normal standard.

Ahh, the contraction age in Florida is significantly low at about 35 on average. That makes a huge difference.

The problem is Florida has an out of control outbreak and it will be difficult to keep the virus away from the older population now. I would be very impressed if it does not enter into that cohort.

However, I am not optimistic because math doesn’t lie.

Also, for everyone interested in Florida specifically, the Tampa Bay Times is doing a really good job with the Covid reporting in Florida:

Given the huge retiree population in Florida and it's dependency on tourism, this could get really bad for them rather quickly. I don't think some of these posters understand the lag time and importance on putting measures in place well ahead of time. It seems to me some of these posters were confidently posting about the reopening and how the lock down was unnecessary and only days later Texas had a capacity problem at their hospitals, and it's close to being a problem in California according to one report.

If you look carefully, Jem is altering his claims to match the new information and hoping nobody will notice. He's also employing one of Trump's strategies under stress, attacking his critics calling them morons when it is Jem himself that is totally out of control. It could be that he is one of the guys who can't mentally handle the lock down vety well at all.

Even Fauci said death rates lag cases by up to 2 - 3 weeks. I do not think DeSantis or anyone else should be celebrating anything just yet. With the way Corona works it is way to early to take a victory lap.

Some of these states are in for a world of hurt and these posters are in complete denial. No number will phase them. It's similar to gun crime until they are personally touched by it, it won't register with them.

Boy, could I tell you a lot of stuff on Mayor Gimenez. Yeah. Lets use him as a character reference.

Fair enough. I appreciate you qualifying your statements as a guess.

Assuming you are telling the truth, so what? I've known some incredibly smart people in my time that could reason their way out of a paper bag. Your posting history here doesn't exactly scream "Mensa".
