I don't have a gun on my nightstand.
I never said that. You must be desperate to resort
to complete fabrications.
"What I don't understand is a man who tells me that the place is crawling with bad guys, and his home is likely to be entered by said bad guys, why would he leave his gun behind, out of his direct control?"
Maybe because the LAW forces him too.
Thanks for pointing this flaw out.
"And why shouldn't I blame such an irresponsible individual for his carelessness with a deadly weapon should that weapon end up in the hands of a bad guy?"
For the very same reason you don't blame a person
for leaving his car keys in his home, which is then broken into,
stolen by a criminal, and used in a mass slaughter
later that day.
If the home owner left his loaded gun on his front lawn,
and then claimed he is not responsible because it got
stolen, then I would agree with you.
But that is not the case.
A criminal forcefully breaking and entering, and using property
to commit further crime cannot be pinned on the home owner.

Quote from tampa:
Axie, I think that you mentioned that you have a gun on your nightstand. If so, are you in the bedroom right now? Are you even in the house where the gun is?
Axie, you tell me that you want a gun to protect your family. I am a reasonable man. If you feel threatened, if you feel that your house is vulnerable, and subject to entry from evil doers, I understand that.
What I don't understand is a man who tells me that the place is crawling with bad guys, and his home is likely to be entered by said bad guys, why would he leave his gun behind, out of his direct control?
And why shouldn't I blame such an irresponsible individual for his carelessness with a deadly weapon should that weapon end up in the hands of a bad guy?
And don't try to "sweep" this one away.
