I know a little bit about the disease that I picked up serving on an NIH study panel 20 years ago. My guess is we may find a way to prevent, or delay its onset, but once full blown I think it will be very hard to reverse. A question for you. there is some data showing that heavy long-time smokers have a low incidence after correcting for longevity. Did your dad ever smoke, and if so, how much? Just very curious. I always thought the nicotine connection should be something to delve into.

yes, I heard that also. Almost all men smoked back then. He was one of the first to quit when he burned a hole in a new shirt putting a hot pipe back in the pocket after a shortened smoke break. I doubt there is anything in nicotine which helps. The report I heard was about chain smokers, so a person with a constant need for external stimulation may have some deficiency or lack of excess which helps prevent alzheimers from creeping in.
Only used his WWII cigarette rations for playing cards and came home from the war with $400 in his pocket.
