Deciding on a Backtesting and Trading Platform

Quote from fundjunkie:

Well, I've had a quick look and am struggling to see why you think it's relevant. Perhaps you should explain it's relevance, other than at face value, and then people may be able to comment.

So far, I have no comment because, I see no real relevance.

Thx
D

You are correct, fundjunkie, I should have explained more. I guess the relevance is as follows:

What can this 1000k a month product (Rina) do, which TradersStudio can not with some coding, just as the following?

a) Firstly, does Rina product have a script language and how much coding is involved ?
b) Secondly, can I duplicate most of these features using TradersStudio between the script language it has and writing a DLL in VB 6.0 or VB .NET?

I had realized that Rina software looks like with TS basic and a DLL in VB 6.0 or .NET and you could duplicate all the functionality. I mean to say that we can duplicate the features of Rina software in TradersStudio with a little coding such as with a script and a DLL or two.

So, I am confused and do not really get it. I feel that I must be missing something somewhere, but what? So, I just thought someone could tell me what other things Rina can do, as it is cost $1000 US a month.

Hope I have been able to explain well. Thanks! :)

I have been told that backtesting is not always accurate on how the system will perform in the future. What are your opinions on the same?

..backtesting is <del>not</del> always not accurate...

couldn't resist..

Seriously, a large part of it has to due with the operator and how he/she goes about performing the backtest (e.g.'s, in/out of sample data, optimizing). I believe Acrary had some good posts on this awhile back.

Thanks, AmbushHillbilly. Checked up the posts of "Acrary", seems quite a number of posts. If possible, can you please give the links for the relevant posts? Thanks! :)

Derrick,

Regarding your questions about how to go about backtesting a system, I thought I'd suggest a couple of books.

You might benefit from checking out the following books as a starting place:

The Evaluation and Optimization of Trading Strategies (Wiley Trading) by Robert Pardo

New Trading Systems & Methods (Wiley Trading) by Perry J. Kaufman

Best wishes,

Nash

I am new at trading. I am trying to develop my trading system using Trading Blox. I would like to know if someone has any comments on it.
Thanks in advance
