Da Bears!

Quote from nitro:

I played corner and halfback at ETHS freshman and softmore year until I broke my hand. I have been watching football for close to thirty years.

The reason the running backs got so much yardage was because the Bears as a team strategy were playing not to get beat by Manning. They were defending the pass, not the run.

I am wasting my time.

nitro

You really are wasting your time...they lost on both sides of the line. period. But hey, if the Bears had Howie Long in his prime thjey would have stopped the run:D

Nitro,

What years did you play football at ETHS? Did you know that Jeremy Piven played linebacker for ETHS I think in 81 and 82. You would have been just ahead of him or behind him. Did you remember him then? I heard he was decent.
78-79. I don't remember Jeremy Piven. I remember that there were was a track athelete that ran a 5.25 fifty yard dash indoors, but I don't know if he ever went to the Olympics.

My track coach, coach May, went to the Mexico City Olympics and got a silver or bronze in the hurdles.

Whoops, no. John Cusack went to ETHS right around the same time as I did though. I think I am a couple of years older...

Piven played varsity in 82 and 83 and probably JV in 80 and 81. So he was a freshman when you were a junior. You guys were definately in high school at the same time, just two years apart.

I realize I'm getting into this a little late, but I thought Phil Simms made an excellent point. He said the bears were playing exactly the kind of defense the Colts have feasted on. Sit back and prevent the long bomb. Manning killed them with short throws and runs. Urlacher was a non factor for the most part. To defend the Colts, you have to be prepared to get blown out. Man up the wideouts and blitz Manning from the time he gets off the bus. Like most QB's, if you knock him silly a few times, he begins to hurry his reads. I understand the Bears don't play that type of defense and are one of the least blitzing teams in the league. Urlacher's great mobility lets them blanket the secondary, as he can get deep quickly on passes, but the Colts used that against him.

The other point I would make is that I totally agree with El Cubano. Grossman basically gave the game away. The Bears had been outplayed most of the game, but had managed to hang around and were within a TD, even after the Colts' demoralizing drive to begin the third quarter. In that situation, the last thing you want to do is lob a heavy wet ball up for grabs in your own end.

It will be interesting to see if the Bears try to upgrade at QB in the offseason.

Quote from Arnie Guitar:

Prince impressed me with his professionalism last night. Playing an electric guitar in the rain? Yes, I know he was going to perform no matter what, but he did it in a way that made me respect him. To those of you who haven't been onstage performing, it's hard to appreciate, but as one who has, he did a great job...and it was live, no lip sync.
It was a little surreal when he was performing "Purple Rain"...in the rain with purple stage lighting, very cool.
He's a very good guitarist who's smart enough not to focus on the guitar, he's an entertainer who's a good guitarist.

Then this just for you
