I think it’s pretty obvious (regardless of the press, which is clearly trying to manipulate the public opinion and contradicts the data) that people being hospitalized and dying are primarily from the vulnerable groups. That is elderly, people with co-morbidities or both.

Well, in fairness, it’s not like they dumped all 20 thousand dead there. I think those were people that did not have relatives to pick up the bodies and the city was worried about the handling the bodies for cremation.

It’s sad that we are making a partisan issue out of this and people start seeing it as black and white. Everyone has to admit that it's a serious public health problem, as we are probably talking about 20-30% bump in global mortality. Take the NYC for example - assuming 25 thousand dead by year end vs an average of 50-60k dead in a regular year, we are talking about a serious increase. On the other hand, it's not the black death and it has a distinct vulnerable population. So we should aim to protect the vulnerable while not jeopardizing the future of the society as a whole. How exactly we do that is a moving target based on data and ongoing outcomes, but both sides should be willing to accept compromises.

I agree. It's not the black death, not even close. I'm not panicking, I'm relatively relaxed when going outside but still aware. That said, I'm aware that when I'm going to travel through Asia in the next few months, I'm somewhat likely to pick up Corona on the way and then I can pass it onto older relatives, for whom it realistically might be fatal. That's a big deal for me, for @Turveyd it's nothing apparently.
He also cannot reason why Sweden had such a massive spike in cases when they didn't quarantine, while neighboring countries that exercised caution did much better.

By the way, why do you not think people dying is a big deal for me to, why do you think I don't care, quite the opposite, you definitely don't care about anything else other than the dying or not dying.

What countries are going to have a decline of 30% in GDP for 2020, come on, don't run any hide, give me the facts. Remember, you said "most countries", so I expect over 50% of the countries in the world to forecast declines of 30% or more.
Of course in reality the major economies are forecasting a decline of 5% - 15%. There's no mention of 30% anywhere.

Certainly, this is not black death.

Under normal circumstance, if we have adequate medical resources, death rate certainly can be controllable and massive deaths can even be preventable. But this virus is high contagious. It has an infection ratio of 1 to 2. Maybe we have enough medical resources at the beginning stage to help out all the sick, but at the late stage when one half of the population got infected and are spreading it to other half. That is where the problem happens. All the medical resources will be way exhausted by then. Massive death will certainly spike dramatically. More than 20% of the population in US has diabetes and other form of serious diseases. That is why the authority lock us down as a way to flat the curve to control the ratio.

This is not the worst of it. This virus is not fully understood. Herd immunity might be a myth. Many people in NYC got the infection, not one time, but couple times. Even they become immunity to it. When they expose to it again, they got reinfected. It is not understood why their immunity system react so slowly to it. Imagine if a person has serious disease got it one time and survive the raw ordeal and then he exposes to it again and got reinfected, his odd of survival will dramatically decrease. This virus really do serious damage to people who have serious health issues.
