@hoffmanw, some of the stuff you quote turned out to be less scary (like multiple reinfections are specific to immuno-compromised), some is definitely true.
However, as a pragmatic society, sooner or later we will decide that the societal cost is not worth the extra lives saved (especially since most people agree that we are just delaying most of the deaths as opposed to preventing them). It’s sad but it’s the reality - we have done it for other sources of mortality. Notable examples are HIV/AIDS which killed 700k in the US and over 30 million globally, malaria which has killed hundreds of millions globally or even something as trivial as suicides which has been steadily rising.
The exception here is that the vulnerable population is, coincidentally, also the richest age bracket of the society and the key voting segment of the population. So it’s gonna take more pain to arrive at the point where we gonna throw in the towel. I just hope that this transition to not-caring is gradual as opposed to a step function. However, it’s gonna happen - and if it does not, the younger generations that are being fucked over will force it in the worst way possible.
