Chinese communists are idiots. Reports are the Chinese were testing biological weapons in Wuhan, China in a lab and somehow, it escaped, infecting the public. Don't they know the US already went down this road of testing biological weapons? Where do they think sarin or mustard gas comes from? US also, signed an agreement banning the use of such biological weapons. Whether they cooperate with the US or not, US scientists will figure out what really happened in Wuhan, China if not already.
To me it is not random. Corona viruses are a brand that come from animals transmitted to humans. This one is traced to bats or pangolins in China and most likely from animal markets where they are sold to be eaten.
Many animals carry corona virus strains in the U.S. but we don't get it because we not only have sanitary standards but...
Genetic analysis of SARS-CoV-2 sequences shows that their closest genetic relatives appear to be bat coronaviruses, with the role of intermediate species possibly played by the pangolin, an endangered species trafficked in China for its scales and meat.
I discussed this earlier so I will just offer up a quick reminder:
The Chinese livestock management and infectious disease control management is a disaster that breeds many problems without even getting to the exotic animals and eating practices. They get lots and lots of outbreaks of new and different bird flues and swine flues continuously. Then they turbo-charge every problem by massively abusing overusing antibiotics in the food chain.
I could go on, but they got work to do. The playground they need to clean up is more than just the bat-eaters, the meat markets, and labs.
Yes. The virus naturally occurs in many animals that we would not catch it from since we normally don't get involved with them or eat them or have them concentrated with humans. The virus itself is not China's fault but ...and let me put this in caps because I am really pissed today about some business cancellations and sports..
CHINA IS 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JUMP TO HUMANS OF THIS STRAIN AND ITS RAPID SPREAD AROUND THE WORLD.

Save the pearl clutching feigned outrage, we're beyond that child like reaction. Brave new world is upon us, and what we used to have, a free and prosperous country, will be nothing but a memory by years end."

Captain makes 2 observations...
If the market discounts future p/e ratios. (and I know it does.)
The market seems to be forecasting a contraction in economy due to business interruption and supply chain issues.)
The second one is more serious.
Govt uses every crisis to remove more freedom.
Captain warns we may be too late.
We have turned into a nation of sheep.
I hope the Captain is wrong... but I fear too many are now conditioned to want govt to herd us like sheep.
I remember reading about many Soviet Union people yearning for the old days when the govt told them what to do.
In my lifetime I never had to worry about it in the US.
Our thoughts were diverse. Our lefties were anti the man and anti the govt.
We loved freedom.
Now I do, because there is so much group think in this country.
Too many people really do not think for themselves.
I would rather people make wrong conclusions... then never make their own.

They are dicking around with a lot of things- both in labs and through livestock management. What gets lost along the way is that wild animals are also subject to the spread from their little practices and experiments. They have a new and different bird flu outbreak every month there and that has been going on for years. You think the wild birds are not the recipient of some of that? Some some chinese guy who family has been eating white-crested toadfucks for centuries suddenly gets sick and we think it is disgusting and that the virus came from the wild. But where did the White-Crested Toadfuck get it and how come it is now suddenly infectious when it has not been for the last five centuries of chinese eating toadfucks?

They were ones parents would have been attending....not to mention the school is moving to online teaching for 3 weeks and all kids have to be home and apart from each other. Not sure how they will learn online but no choice I guess.
