sadly for the folks that want this, and fortunately as far as I'm concerned, they live in country with one somewhat democratic body, the U.S. Senate, that everything in the way of legislation has to pass through. When the folks that think this way become a majority, let's hope they never do, they can expect better odds of getting their way. Right now they are not even a plurality. And thank god for that!
While a majority may favor less immigration, even that's unclear, because most folks may want illegal immigration stopped but not necessarily less immigration. And it is very clear that a majority of the population don't want those who have lived here many years and are contributors to society deported, even if they are here illegally.
Having spent a little time in Mexico, Central and South America, mission trips, I understand to a small degree why people from those regions want to come here. And I understand most feel they can't afford either the time or money to enter legally.
But does that make it right? Are we suppose to just ignore, turn a blind eye to illegal immigration? What does that say to those who did cut thru the redtape and enter legally?
Before anything can be done we have to stop the flow and secure our borders. We're the only country in the world that allows this. Heck, half of the countries around the globe you'd either be thrown in some dark hell-hole of a prison at best if not shot on sight.
That being said, yes there are those who, once here have played by the rules to an extent, and have been encouraged by past administrations.
What to do?
Automatic Citizenship is completely out of the question. No one favors this, but I'd be willing to bet that a guaranteed residence status with expedited review for those who qualify could be agreed on.
Give everyone 6 months to register if your here illegally, registration guarantees you a review by immigration. No deportations during this 6 month signup period, except felons. If you meet a certain criteria, no criminal record, job etc. you automatically recieve residence status, you can not vote, you can not receive government assistance. Your residence status is valid for 5 years, during that time you would be enrolled in a path to citizenship course which would have to be completed during that time.
Anchor Babies would not be allowed after this. Exception would be for those having children during the residence status period, once citizenship is granted it could be passed to those children born here. Children born on foreign soil would have to gain Amercian citizenship thru the court system, similar to adoption, but could not be separated from their parents. The founding fathers never intended for this immigration loophole.
If you haven't registered after 6 months, Anyone here illegally without registration is automatically deported. No questions asked. Employing anyone illegal, major, major fines. If you don't want to be legal and play by the rules. Then please leave.
Yes there will we some welfare cases, but they should be handled individually without legal precedent.
But the Border is closed, exclamation point!
Just my late afternoon rant.
