Good for you, good for me too as I don't have to go anywhere, but the vast majority of working people do. We are self inflicting a financial crisis. 3 months from now 99.7% of those that get this will be very healthy, unemployed and going broke. If you wanted to intentionally destroy a country you'd be doing exactly what we're doing. I don't know if this is an external attack, an internal attack, an attack of abject stupidity, or a combo of all three, but we are defiantly under attack and this virus is just a Trojan Horse of sorts.

Is.your suggestion that we simply ignore the virus and met people go about their business and spread the virus all over because unlike the flu, you could be carrying and infecting people for 10 days before you know you have it.

Is.your solution to ignore.it and let people mix with each other with no restrictions?

If we unleash this plague on this country it will be another form of intentional destruction.

From what I understand it takes weeks to clear this virus. So, if we did what you said we do we would still have a country with a substantial amount of employees out sick AND an overrun healthcare system.

The point is there is no easy button. The best option is to preserve life.

We don't know that yet.

It may take weeks to clear the virus but the virus is no longer infectious in the late stages.

And there is also speculation that people who continue to test positive long after recovery are getting positive test results on the dead viruses still in their system.

So a person may or likely not infectious before all virus material is cleared, as is true of many other viral infections.

Here is what we are being told. If you have symptoms, don't go to the doctor, don't go to the ER. Stay home, rest and drink plenty of fluids. IOW, there is no help coming from the medical community for the average person. The survival rate is near 100% unless you're very elderly, and/or have pre-existing conditions.
My suggestion would be to tell everyone over 70 to self contain as best they can. Those with any type of serious medical condition, do the same. If you do in fact come down with it, follow the instructions being given, and stay home. Employers to closely monitor their workforce day to day and send people home who show symptoms, along with possible termination for coming in sick. Leave it up to business as to whether they shutdown or not. The rest of us, use your head, be prudent, and make your own decisions as to restricting your movements.

You are forgetting that many people will still need hospital stays to deal with lung infections and conversions to pneumonia. People with mild symptoms are told to stay at home but if you develop anything more severe than simple flu symptoms to go to the hospital. The hospitals are not equipped to handle large masses of people coming to the hospital needed respirators and we are not just talking about old people or already immune compromised people.

Remember all the normal people making a huge run on toilet paper? That is what could happen to hospitals if everyone simply walks around like nothing is wrong.

The big mistake you and many are making are equating mortality rate with hospitalization. If this thing explodes because people stay in large groups and exchange fluids in open spaces the surge on the health care industry will overwhelm it and then it will be too late for you to say ooops.

I would rather listen to the medical community then you or Trump who have already said many people with it who will not be at risk for death will still need medical care to deal with severity of some symptoms.

I would add there is something to say about trying to tamper public anxiety. It’s bad enough now, if a government panics or appears to panic, we’re in chaos. When someone yells fire in the movie theater, people get hurt during the stampede for the door compared to the announcement to just please exit quietly through the nearest exit.

My only concern is small business and I think there is a lot Federal and local governments can do to support them and would be time better spend focusing on that then lower fed rates to 0%.

Small business will have mortgage, utilities, payroll and spoiled food (restaurants). There can be deductions granted but the real issue is cash flow. Banks can offer something for those who pay mortgages or business loans. Utility companies can offer discounts if business are closed and not using as much power. Payroll is tough but rather than the Fed pumping money into banks who lend it to rich people. Offer business interest free loans to make payroll and give them a year to pay it back when they reopen. Stuff like that....

Capital One has a huge building near me, regional HQ. They closed the entire building. The 2 cafes in the lobby are small businesses that will basically have $0 for 5 weeks. Capital One can support them somehow and they could get a tax break and any assistance offered to Corona business victims.

Agree. I am also a small business but my scope is international and moving goods so for the time being I am not seeing any slowdown. However I have a growing sector in the U.S. and wondering if demand will drop off in next two months and affect me that way. We deal with China for example and in the past 2 months not one ounce of drop off in business or shipments so that was a good sign.

I think Congress just needs to say to States do what you can and we will have your back in funding. a few billion dollars magically appeared in Congress for Corona funding so why not do this for less. I think Congress should also have the balls to close a few tax loopholes and earmark that money for small business support or any business that can demonstrate direct financial harm from closure and quarantines.

Raise the short term capital gains tax to slow down the market volatility and direct those funds to that idea.
