Corn Crash!

Two days ago a guy on NPR (from a soft ag government agency, can't remember exactly which) said that the present soybean crop will be (is) the 4th largest in history and that the corn one was also huge with international markets recovering very nicely. He specifically mentioned Australia, but if I remember correctly he also said India and China were coming along very well. Just repeating... I have no facts and not too much knowledge.

He's a liar, whether knowingly or he's spewing mis-information based on what he's being told to say and if he was standing in front of me I would tell him to his face.
Two crop insurance adjusters that work from Western Iowa to Easterm Pennsylvania and Northern Minnestota to Tennessee have both told me that acreage is overstated by 15 to 18%. They both said yields would be lighter than expected due to moisture problems or lack of. In my own area, currently being reported as "exceptional" by the USDA, our crops are drying up.
I have no personal knowledge of India but China is currently below expectations and already stating that they will be buying more grains this year due to thier own crop deficiencies. Australia is in a record draught. They thought they might get some relief this year but is hasn't worked out. The only country doing well this year is Brazil.
You need to learn that anytime a government representative opens their mouth the possibility of a lie coming out is as good as carbon monoxide. I was a keynote speaker at an agriculture affair last year and called the USDA reps on the carpet for openly lying to the participants and was escourted from the room even though I was holding proof of their lies in my hand.
You believe what they want you to believe if you want . . . that is what they expect.
We, from South America, tend to believe that Americans -the government, that is- are more honest and have less of a double speech. But perhaps governments all around the world behave the same. I do remember that he stressed the fact that Australian crops were coming back to the market in a big way after many years of disappointments due to floods or fires. whats up prof? hows it going? I just got back from an awesome vacation in Yellowstone and it was worth the trip. good to get out of the markets for a while too. I am getting bullish corn, I think the possibility for an early frost looms very large. Buying outright calls, I have my eye on that gap at 720.00 or so (Dec) Hope you are well my friend

Going well Bud! I was invited out there to fish but didn't make it. There was a Michael McDonald concert Wednesday out there I was suppose to go to as well that I sadly missed.
I've been beating the crap out of the grains and loving it. That gap is a nice target but the shear fact that price will go up to challenge it is enough to make me happy.
The locust were really early this year which is a good sign of an early frost. I talked to a number of farmers this morning south of me and they all had their fields firing which will cost them about 40 bushels an acre, from 160 to 120. I've had my Dec. 2008 and Dec. 2009 calls for a while.
