You make some interesting arguments and it's clear you aren't a bag of rocks but you lose all credibility when you start calling people "dumb ass" and telling people to "fuck off." Your version of presenting your side of the argument comes off as grabbing someone by the collar, punching them in the nose, and saying, "this is how it is." I think if you took the time to present your views in a more civilized manner people would give your thoughts and views much more consideration. It's not what you say, it's how you say it.

Look I have mixed feeling on this. On the one hand, I strongly believe in individual rights and freedoms and the ability to succeed at any level. The problem is when you fail it costs me because there's no way in hell the government is going to make you pay for your mistakes, i.e. dying of starvation.

Your probably too young to know this but 401Ks and IRAs are a relatively new concept. Up until 20 years ago corporate America took responsibility for peoples retirement. The idea of turning that over to the individual makes a lot of sense on paper, but in reality most are ill equiped to manage their retirement funds and thats a fact.

But, even still, your missing the point altogether. My point isn't that gov't should do this, or even that they will anytime soon. My point is that sooner or later, one way or another, gov't will have to support these people because they simply will not have enough money to live on until they die.

If you could pull your head out of your ass long enough to think this through you would see that there is no question I am right about this point.

Nobody should have a 401k or an IRA or any other type of regulated retirement account. NOBODY. When I talk to people at work who participate in the company sponsored 401K most of them say they participate in it because it is tax free, they obviously don't understand what "deferred" means. Others say they do it because the company matches their own contributions, up to a certain level. Here's the funny part - everyone I have ever talked to who is participating in a 401K that purchases stock, whether in the company or in a fund, believes that their money is guaranteed. If there ever comes a time that they actually read their statements and find that their 401K has declined in value not only will they not mind if the govt confiscates it, they will DEMAND it.

You guys here who have a 401K or IRA need to get your heads out of your asses. Nobody should have a savings account in which govt regulation limits how much you are allowed to save and how much you are allowed to withdrawal. And if you have a retirement account because you believe you are protecting your assets from some sort of future litigation, well then you really need to get your head out of your ass.

Even socialist Canada has their version of 401k's called RRSP's, and they have NO plans to confiscate them.
Unfortunately, Obama is the demise of America with his Spread the Wealth plan.

I often wonder how much people will take before they begin to fight back. A quick view of the social climate in England suggests, A LOT. I don't think we're anywhere close to civil war but we are inching closer and closer to the breaking point.

it's true, we have an entire generation if not more with a negative savings rate- now they are trying to ensure their retirement comes on the backs of others before they move into their retirement homes.
