Coming to terms with my feelings. Long, sorry.

Quote from NYDreamer:

. . .Instead of pointlessly cursing the sun to go around me. . .

Precisely. To be mad about other people voting for free goodies now and ignoring the problems down the road is to be mad about the weather. Stupidity and ignorance are powerful forces of nature. Better to marvel at their awesome power, take care to avoid damage and be glad you can see it.

Much better to see the approaching storm and prepare for it or (perhaps better yet) GTFO.

Quote from RedDuke:

I did not read the whole thread, I would say about 10%. All of you who decided or considered cutting relationships with spouses and mothers over their voting choice, should probably try to look for professional help. Otherwise your lives will be utter misery with each passing year.

The rest of us will move on and enjoy our lives.

You have no idea what it means to leave in repressive regime and having no rights. Out country is truly one of the best place to live on the planet.

P.S. Best of luck to all and try to look at things with "glass is have full" mentality.

I have every idea of what it is like living under a repressive regime. You know nothing of my family's history or where we come from.

This is precisely why I take it so seriously when I see the same path ahead.

Quote from Ghost of Cutten:

You seem to harbour an illusion that you are a moral person, trying to do the right thing in a world that rewards selfishness and venality. But you betray your true motives - you are not, or were not, trying to do the right thing for the sake of virtue; you were doing it in the hope of achieving various rewards that would satisfy your ego. E.g. success, making the world a better place, and so on. Now those rewards seem to you (probably incorrectly IMO - you really think the voting populace have ever been some kind of enlightened philosopher-citizens?) to have disappeared, you lose interest in 'doing good'.

If you were in a concentration camp in 1944, or some other truly dire situation, then I could empathise with your weakness. But the reality is that you are one of the most privileged and spoiled human beings in the history of the cosmos, by virtue of being a 1st world citizen with (presumably) gainful employment, full mental faculties, and no serious health issues.

It is therefore clear that your self-professed virtue was not done for virtuous reasons at all, but was just done to satisfy your own selfish desires - to see the world become how you want it to become. True virtue is not done for consequences, it is done out of duty, for its own sake. A truly virtuous action is heroic precisely because it remains so even in ignominious failure - the effort and intention itself is what gives it merit.

I suggest you do an honest reassessment of your own life and value system. If you truly want to be 'good', then it doesn't matter a damn if one navy-suited politician has limited power for 4 years instead of another, especially in the USA where separation of powers is stronger than almost any other country except Switzerland. What matters is that you are committed to furthering your honest, unselfish perception of the greater good, and gain honour and glory by pursuing it to the best of your ability. Anything else is just selfish reactionary old-fart bullshit.

Don't become one of those pathetic ranting old gits, forever moaning about how the world has gone to hell. We see them in every generation, and they are wrong every time. You are in danger of becoming the modern-day equivalent of 1860s former plantation owners nostalgic about the passing of slavery.

Nothing is more laughable than a privileged person whining about how hard they have it. Try being a 3rd world citizen, hard-working but fucked over by the corrupt and powerful, or stuffed due to being born in hard circumstances not of your own making. Then you wouldn't whine like a bitch about such trivialities as not always having the world turn out like you want.

Get a grip and harden the fuck up.

I can only assume this was directed to me. Once again, you - like redduke - know nothing of where i come from, where my wife comes from or what our family history is. Just because it doesn't meet with your standards or predefined levels of acceptability, you leap to judge me and my actions according to your own self-centered life. What gives you the right to tell me how I should live my life? I'm not telling you how to live yours.

F off, Cutten.

I will surround myself with like-minded, conservative thinkers who are preparing for the collapse of our financial well being.

I think with the credit default swaps bad bets, this collapse in the USA happened and past now, and President Obama stop this systemic risk with his policy.
And I think poster Cutten is very right about you do not appreciate where you are born. You are lucky in this world to be here from birth.

I don't give a shit what you or Cutten think. And the two of you continue to make assumptions on my birthplace and the origins of our family or where we have lived.

Quote from Ghost of Cutten:

TT is wilfully opting out of something moderately good for petty, egotistical and selfish reasons - that he didn't get the election result he wanted. It's the adult equivalent of a baby throwing its toys out of the pram.

.

Again, fuck off. I didn't write my post because the side I wanted to lost the election as much as I did for my parents choosing a path that puts the future of my child at risk. It was "coming to terms" and it ended up being a change of mindset. I'm not going to continue to contribute to a society that takes and takes. And speaking of taking, take your self righteous and pompous stance and shove it up your ass.

As for giving up, I do so because I realize the situation is futile and I would rather spend my time and resources moving to protect my family from a country that is becoming more and more hostile to me by the day, rather than wasting the time fighting a battle that cannot be won. It's intelligent reallocation of resources. You do whatever it is you want to do.

Me, I'm in it for me and my own now, and not you nor anyone else has the right to tell me how I should act or what I should do now. Libertarian, my ass. Only liberals try to tell people what they should think and do.

As far as the rest of his discourse, If that is the way he chooses to deal with the problem, it is his business.

Exactly. A Libertarian, of all people, should respect that.

High quality analysis.

Quote from 377OHMS:

Libertarian? Hardly.

The lefts seems genuinely alarmed at the widespread reaction expressed by many conservatives who have decided to simply leave the field. Some will fight against increased taxes by not complying with the new regulations, some by withdrawing money normally given to society voluntarily as charity, some by actually leaving the country and some by joining in the looting.

It is as though the left expected the right to just continue fighting in the next round and receive the next set of blows like a boxer who is going to lose by decision. They seem to have expected the right to throw up its hands and pull out the checkbook and for businesses and individuals to see that they've been defeated and so agree to pay for it all even if reluctantly.

Its a composite cry going out from every liberal quarter, "It isn't fair!". Papa John's is just supposed to agree to pay for healthcare for every employee even if it bankrupts the company. Individuals are supposed to just agree to accept lower take-home pay and conservative politicians are supposed to stop all resistance to Obama's polices across the board.

"We won".

Liberals can't believe a man would react by reducing his instinct towards charity and concentrating on his family and so turn a cold shoulder to those who voted to take food off of his family's table.

I didn't anticipate this naive reaction. Now we hear the left say that people who won't pay the bill for socialism aren't moral, the businesses who won't agree to eat the cost of the welfare state are greedy and we are all quitters at heart. And that is just days after the election.

Wait until the massive waves of layoff and termination notices starts. When entire industries realize that they cannot stay in business and doctors, nurses and medical device manufacturers retire, change careers or leave the country the liberals are going to go berserk. There will probably be all kinds of regulations introduced that prevent businesses and individuals from leaving for tax purposes. If the left is this indignant already imagine the howl that will go up when tax revenue actually decreases in the face of increased tax rates. The government is going to end up receiving less money and the deficit will grow faster than it did with the Bush tax cuts in place. The defense cuts in the "fiscal cliff" will throw hundreds of thousands of people onto unemployment and welfare. The number of people applying for food and utility assistance will explode.

A few more body blows like this and we're going to end up in a Great Depression.
