Colbert's Shocking Attack on Trump Leaves Media Stumbling

CBS News, the network of pompous, self-important blowhards for decades, eg Ed Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Katie Couric and now this asshole.
The problem I have is this. Colbert can say whatever he wants at his neighborhood bar. As a society however, we have the right to say you don't go on a major network and cross that line. That's not what we want for our country. It's not a matter of the First Amendment. It's a matter of telling us if you want to be defending this sort of thing. Because if you do, we have to ask your advertisers if that is what they want to be identified with.

I believe the reason people reacted to Colbert's remarks in the way they did, whether they thought they were brilliantly funny, as I did, or cruel and uncalled for, as some others did, is in either case because there was underlying truth. Trump is a comedic target. He has made himself one. What may be said in his favor is that he may not be able to help himself because of his mental disorder. Honest, hard working Americans put him in an untenable position. They did it with the best of intentions. It would be quite unfair to blame them for Mr. Trumps present situation. They trusted him, and believed he could deliver on his outlandish promises. They truly believed he would help them and their families. And I think it is becoming quite clear that Mr. Trump was sincere. He too believed in what he was saying. As time passes there is less and less question about that. He is not a charlatan, a con man, a scam artist, as we may have once thought he was. Yes, he has played those roles; cheated many, but he is innocent of all charges by reason of insanity.
Now the election is over. Mr. Trump, a man singularly unsuited to be President, surprised himself; he won. He won as only four others have, with a minority of the popular vote. He did it according to the rules, and fairly as far as we know. His enthusiastic supporters turned out at the polls. His managers, in one of the most brilliant campaigns in U.S. history, figured out exactly which electoral college votes could give victory; his chances having been improved by an opposition candidate that lacked broad appeal; an opposition candidate that carried a huge baggage of innuendo. The election turned on disinformation and alternative facts, seemingly every bit as real and believable as truth and reality.
The country is yearning for relief from our nightmare. Mr. Colbert gave us that in hard hitting comic relief that came perilously close to damnation. Mr. Sanders has given us relief in a less mocking, more respectful tone, and therefore less entertaining. We are not the only ones to notice something is seriously amiss in the Trump Administration.

You obviously don't get it. It's not about Trump. It's about some late night dirtball feeling it is perfectly appropriate to use language like that about the President. It's not brilliant or funny. At best it is juvenile schoolyard taunts. Colbert is a coward because he would never dare say that in front of one of Trump's sons. He is a typical liberal media bully, actually a worthy successor to the asshole he replaced.

Do leftists ever go down for this kind of crap? Look at the guy Colbert replaced. Letterman got nailed doing all sorts of stuff and nothing ever happened to him.
