Seeing as how these discussions can unnecessarily unravel, it might be useful to define in advance somewhat generic terms with more specificity before engaging in dialogue and debate to ensure that we're all talking about the same thing. Otherwise, we may be working at cross purposes with one another even with the best of intentions.
GIGO.
Agree.
Yet, he (kut2k2) clearly posted a link to show his own understanding of chop...a definition that did not correlate with a range definition. I too posted a link to a prior discussion about chop and I posted a chart example of chop from that prior discussion. The link I posted contained info posted by NoDoji that gives specific details about a chop...she called them
"warning signs". In addition, I gave other specifics of chop that included explaining that it contains s/r levels...information not discussed in any other prior discussions here at ET. I stopped there because any further information would be specifics from a "trading plan" which is something he specifically wasn't interested in via the following statement...
I'm looking for generic method(s), not a detailed plan.
I also gave him a generic method about chop...as he did via his generic method of trend trading
(buy if trend is up, shortsell if trend is down, exit if trend disappears).
As for trends and ranges...he himself has participated in past thread discussions on such. Therefore, no need for me to regurgitate something he already knows on those two topics involving trend and range.
Simply, his
generic Investopedia definition of chop and my more
specific explanation of chop that included a chart example (I think he missed the post by me) and my generic chop method to go along with his prior understanding of trend and range should have been enough.
In addition, I gave specific info about another topic he mentioned...called scalping. The info I discussed involved tools that's needed to properly do such. I didn't mentioned any further info beyond that because once again...it gets into a
detailed trading plan which is something he wasn't interested in.
Yet, that really wasn't the issue (I think). Re-reading the thread...the attitude quickly change when the name calling started between kut2k2 and tiddywinks...it was all downhill after that. That's ok because there's enough info in this thread that was shared that anybody can easily research on Google...something that's the
responsibility of any trader to do if interested in the info.
