China endures worst cold wave in 140 years

I'm pretty tired of "science" and their predictions. I guess the proper definition of "science" is "logic could be good or bad, assumptions are never seriously questioned". That allows "scientists" to build a belief system that satisfies them. They protect said belief system by owning the venue for the debate. People that don't share the belief system are kept from/evicted from the debate venue.

Before the first moon landing "science" predicted several feet of dust would be on the moon. The Moon Lander was built with some landing gear to accommodate that. There was just a little dust on the moon's surface. Rational people would look at that and change their assumptions about the age of the solar system. "Science" can't do that, it defies their belief system that they are sooooooo invested in. They made up some weak arguments like they always do and went on about their day. That is how they protect their cherished belief system. They own the venue for the debate, they can state that "it was proven to be a fraud" or "this has been thoroughly debunked" without citing any references and nobody inside the belief system will mount a challenge. They would be banned as heretics.

We had all this GW hysteria for decades. We also had a story about a guy that abandoned a plane in the Arctic in WW2. He found it with ground penetrating radar and melted through hundreds of feet of ice to get to it. That didn't fit with "science's" world view so it was ignored. People went to the Bureau of Standards and told them that their ice cores' rings are intraday events, not hundreds of years. Nothing changed...

Do Your Own Due Diligence when it comes to investing and "science".

All of the world's science organizations agree with the basics of AGW.

Sea levels ARE rising. Temps ARE increasing rapidly due to CO2 being 40% higher than it was two hundred years ago. Weather events ARE getting more extreme. And it's only going to get worse. Much worse if nothing is done.

Those are the facts.

You ignorant asshole righties can ignore them but they are still facts.

And we know why you don't like or trust science.

All of the world's science organizations.

The incoherent mumbling continues from FC...

You are going to have a really difficult time about three years from now when so many cracks appear in the global warming theory that most scientists fully back away from it.

You will be crying about 30 years from now when global warming is viewed as a complete scientific fraud..... the same way that the 'global cooling' scare from the 1970s is viewed today.

So you don't think a 40% rise in the earth's most important long term greenhouse gas has and will raise temperatures. Maybe you can explain how that could happen.

Highly unlikely you can explain anything requiring thought but...

It will never be considered a fraud per se. If new data comes along then the hypotheses will change, that's science, but for today gw is the logical conclusion based on today's evidence. You may ultimately be right but I think the odds are heavily against you. But there's no cost to arguing your view, who's still going to be posting here in 30 years!? Lol.

I would add that it will not be the end of the world. The ignorant righties (are there any other kind) seem to think this whole thing is a prediction of some terminal calamity for the human race. It won't be doomsday. It will simply be expensive in terms of money and lives and the earth's biosphere. (Kiss the old -growth forests goodbye along with a sizable chunk of the species) And the longer we wait to modify our energy usage the more expensive it will be.

Imo the human impact really depends on gw's effect on world grain harvests. This year looks good. But we have already had bad years, and chaos ensued.

And low elevations being flooded. A large proportion of the world's population lives near the sea.

And droughts, that will cause problems with water supplies.

And plain old heat. The tropics will become death traps from the heat and deaths in the US from heat will increase. Right now heat kills more people in the US than all other weather events combined.

New article in Nature laments the dismal failure of climate models

An article published today in Nature laments the dismal failure of climate models to predict climate a mere 5 years into the future, much less a century from now:
"The dramatic warming predicted after 2008 has yet to arrive."
"It's fair to say that the real world warmed even less than our forecast suggested,” [modeller] Smith says. “We don't really understand at the moment why that is.” “...........
