  • China says it will cut import tariffs on numerous non-US goods, a major backward step in its trade war with the US.
  • The move is most likely designed to protect Chinese consumers against rising costs associated with the trade war.
  • The cuts in tariffs are expected to save Chinese consumers and businesses something in the order of 60 billion yuan ($8.7 billion), according to Reuters.
 
China doesn't import , this has minimal impact . China needs to reduce tariffs on all imports including US goods. Then other countries and US will reduce tariffs on China imports and abide by intellectual rules, simple . Everyone wins !

it is a non-starter. tell it to the Germans to reduce their tariffs on US cars. the Germans were offered this kind of deal but said no deal.

They could do it easily as roughly 95% of all cars sold in Europa are none US cars. Europeans don't like US cars. Only Tesla could be a threat in past. But as all German carbuilders starts to built EV's too, Tesla might not be a threat anymore soon.

why then don't they reduce the tariffs on imports?

Then Trump should place a tariff on imported german cars. I'm all for fair trade.
