Fair enough. Perhaps I confused you with one of those uber-leftist anti-American, Anti-Israel and usually anti-semitic idiots of the George Galloway variety in the UK who have entered into an alliance with the Islamo-nazis (cause they have more to give, I guess), don't believe that Israel has the right to defend itself (or exist for that matter) and find a way to blame Israel if someone sneezes in Australia. I am sure you know what kind of people I am talking about and if you're not one of them I sincerely apologize.
Oh and on a separate note:
Don't you think that it's a tad too arrogant and presumptuous to call a state "small" and "impoverished" if its population is 50% bigger than yours and its median household income is similar to what it is in your country:

I have not called Israel poor but rather resource impoverished there is something of a difference between the two. Scotland has historically been a low wage area as are many other areas of Northern Britain, Israel is a nation state Scotland however is a region of the United Kingdom. No pissing contest here, Scotland would struggle if cut loose at this moment in time from the rest of the UK and Israel would also be in for some very austere times if the US withdrew loan guarantees and military aid. Last time I checked Rangers were at the top of SPL rather than Celtic not that I pay that much attention to football.

I don't know about Scotland but I doubt Israel would struggle. The entire aid package including loan guarantees is 2.5billion dollars which is not that much to begin with. Moreover it comes with so many strings attached that I don't think Israel would actually lose financially.
Israel would undoubtedly lose politically if the US cut it loose. So would the US which would lose its influence and negotiating leverage in the Middle East. But financially the fact that Israel must buy US weaponry, can't sell to China and many other countries, can't develop competing weapona etc by and large cancels out the financial benefits of the aid it gets.

I don't know if you can seriously compare a nuclear power in the middle of the most oil rich and most explosive region in the world with the Republic of Ireland (or the United Kindom for that matter). I actually wish Israel was not relevant and be left alone to deal with its internal and primarily external problems. But the absurdly high number of articles about Israel in british newspapers, the non-stop stink about israel emanating from primarily european ultra-liberal left and the UN's obsession with israel et the expense of real crises and real attrocities elsewhere in the world demonstrate quite convincingly that unfortunately Israel is still very very relevant.
