Canadians in P&R

Ironic to note: 25% of Canada's GDP are exports to the United States. After the knock-on effect, about 1/3rd of Canada's national income is derived from American consumption. IOW, America foots the bill for Canada's socialist 'utopia'. Most Canadians then turn around, and slam America all day. Just sheer ignorance. But the ironic truth.

You are in fact the ignorant one. Canada has a trade deficit with the US. America doesn't foot the bill for Canada at all. In reality, many American companies rely on Canadian consumers, it's one of their most reliable markets. Start a trade war and it will have a significant impact on the economies in both countries.

And yes, most Canadians think current day US is a joke on many fronts.

ps Money Mathew, the quoted post is an example of the "facts" that end discussions before they even start. What can one really say to pure propaganda that serves no real purpose ? This is now Trump got elected; this reliance on "facts" in the online world is hurting your country the most. Who in their right mind really thinks a guy who lies 84% of the time should be elected, unless they got swayed by a charismatic message of hope ? Americans have to live with whatever Trump does, not Canadians.

Oh I've got plenty, man. Just use the search function, my username, and type "Canada" in the field. I blast Canada on a regular basis.

I love my country and would die for Canada, freedom and free markets. Doesn't mean its a shit show up here, and we've got lots of major problems that need fixing.

Nine_Ender loves to come down to the basement and scold Americans for not thinking and believing exactly as he does. Then slanders everyone for not being "as tolerant" as he is. Waste of space, really.

Canada is very far left. America is much more Conservative. Like all idiot Liberals, Canadians seem to think any opposing political ideology is racist, extremist talk that needs to be shut down immediately !! Prison for climate deniers! Any talk of reducing immigration is racist!! Immigration cannot be discussed!!! Or carbon taxes. Or blah blah. Liberals have all their sacred bullshit cows.

And Trump is coming to smash each and every one of them. That's why I love Donald Trump.

You are an endless stream of bs. You can't claim to be Canadian and American all the time, and there is no way in hell you'd die for Canada. Canada isn't "very far left" at all, unless you are using your own personal scale of absurdity on what constitutes left or right ( labels which are often ridiculous tools of simple minded people in most cases anyways ). Immigration, the environment, and health care get talked to death in Canada, there is nothing sacred at all in Canada except we don't tolerate racism like some Americans do.

You preach tolerance but are one of the least tolerant people on here. You say you'd spit on "liberals" due to their mere existence yet claim the country you supposedly live in is very far left. So basically you hate almost everyone around you.

What is your opinion on the Cultural Genocide and treatment of Aboriginal people in Canada? Have you spoken out against it on this site? Have you spoken out against the Oil industry in Canada in regards to Climate Change? Show me the posts where you have.

What you don't seem to realize is for every social issue in Canada it's far worse in the US at the moment on numerous fronts. And given that the US is overall a richer nation then Canada, there is no reason for this other then poor policy and education. Ironically, the reason you can find news articles about issues in Canada is we care more about when we fail then Americans do, and we talk about it without blaming race or political affiliation.

You have to now live with a stagnated economy, a mediocre health care system, the need to carry firearms in many locales, the reality that many are carrying firearms, a very real divide between black communities and white communities, declining education standards, depressed housing markets in some areas , ... . Canada is not perfect at all, and we share many of the economic issues as our economy is so intertwined with yours. But the US had it so good for so long, and you've blown many of your advantages due to greed and lack of controls on extreme business behavior.

You won't see Canadians talking about these issues much on here because we are few in number and the main talkers on this site come up with ridiculous arguments based on irrelevant or incorrect "facts". Basically, most Americans don't seem to want to learn from what works in other countries, because that would mean admitting they aren't #1 in every arena of life. The pride before the storm can apply to both individuals and countries.

ps Gwb_Trading bringing up race again as a reason to dismiss lower murder rates in Canada is an example why discussions go nowhere and we don't bother.

Baltimore...who gives a fuck about Baltimore?

You seem oblivious to the fact that Ottawa still has a fairly low crime rate and the increase in murders in the recent year might possibly be normal variance ( which will be known in a few years ). Toronto had a small spike up in murders in one year in the past and it ended up just being statistical variance. On the P&R, we see stories about Ottawa being overrun by mentally ill people and new immigrants committing crimes. In reality, it's a sleepy small city full of government employees where not much happens. Masses of suburbs with a modest city core then a traditional city setup. Utopia for some, boring for others.

Why do you deflect the discussion here? You are proving my point. Please prove me wrong by pointing me to a past post of yours where you discuss these issues facing Canada. I would like to be proven wrong and shown how you are equally critical of Canada as you are with America.

Or is this message board simply an escape for you where you get to insult Americans and ignore the issues in your own country?

My philosophy has always been that if you like where you are, you'll like where you're going. But I think it's a very flawed philosophy. Let me add that among the many places I love are Baltimore, one of our oldest cities with one of the best impressionist art collections to be found anywhere in the world. The reason is that some of the very best paintings are in Baltimore. It is in one respect like New York's Frick, the collection isn't that large, but almost every piece is dynamite. Then there is Toronto. What can you possibly say bad about Toronto. Nothing really. What a wonderful cosmopolitan City! And great Jazz too! And Quebec. Wow! In the summer, long days, clear, clean, cool air, and everyone is so polite you could be in Japan. And the Rocky mountain West. Anyone there can make change without having to look at the cash register display. Colorado Springs, Newport in the Rockies. And nowhere in the world, absolutely nowhere, has better skiing than Colorado and Utah. And Oh my God, Northern New Mexico. Paradise three times over! And New York. Trashy, Brassy, but what's not to like about it. Everything is there! And if you don't mind staying up 24hours you can avail yourself of all of it. And the West Coast, Disneyland from Tijuana to Seattle. But by far my favorite American City is Chicago. There is nowhere more American, and no avenue more majestic than Michigan Avenue when the flags are flying; no better architecture, better neighborhood bars, or salt rolls. Go Cubies!

And then there is the magnificent continent to our South. How spectacular! And Rio, oh my God, what a setting for a city. And Quito , eternal Spring. And Recife, or Sao Paulo -- New York three times over, but who except the young have the stamina.

And finally there is Paris. (Not Kentucky, but the other one.) There is a reason so many have died there. Once you're there, why would you leave, if you could possibly stay..

So here I am. In Mississippi. God help me. [ It is not the geography, which is beautiful, especially in the winter, nor the mosquitoes, nor the dead air of an August afternoon, or the occasional hurricane or tornado, that makes one recoil; it's the ignorance. It blankets and smothers all.]
