Canada’s covid-19 second wave is a humbling moment after a summer of bragging

Most everyone I know does not complain about others but makes life work for themselves. But matter of fact is that the US and Canada are drifting apart on many issues, more than perhaps ever before. That causes people to see differences more clearly perhaps.

For years, Nine-Ender has spouted anti-U.S. hatred while promoting mistruths about Canada. Even when presented with clear factual data from the Canadian government on healthcare, education and other issues in Canada --- he ignores the reality and attacks anyone who points out the actual facts.

There are a lot of positive things about Canada -- as well as significant issues the country is dealing with. Ignore the facts about your own country's issues and continually attacking a neighboring country does little to enhance a rational discussion based on facts.

As long as it's fact based I agree. What I really can't stand is this in-fight between two parties/ideologies. We should he debating issues not ideologies. I embrace many conservative principles and I also embrace some very liberal ideas. It seems we are forced to only choose black or white, which I refuse.

I get less of that from those living in BC than the other provinces. BC is ok.

BC's views are somewhat helped by the fact that the left wing states in U.S. are to the south and they are somewhat joined at the hip. Not saying that is good or bad, just saying there is a somewhat peaceful mutual view.

And BC is not part of that Ontario-centric view of the world. Thank God. Ontario has issues with the Quebecois to the East, issues with the Canadian prairie provinces to the west, and issues with the Americans to the South. Having to be superior to all those other people and their neighbors is exhausting so we must have compassion for them. Of course, the native Ontarians are not that way by nature. It's the new and improved ones, new and improved in their minds anyway.

Or as my girl Michelle Rempel the MP from Calgary says in a most unparliamentary way: "Why is Alberta always treated like it is the fart in the room?"

Both countries are currently full blown leftarded and fiscally insane. They have much in common.

All this "left vs right" bs is uniquely American it's hardly even a topic in Canada. A lot of the issues that Americans think are big up here aren't; it's often them trying to project very real short term issues there onto us. We do certain things better, and some Americans refuse to accept that reality. What we don't do better is take appropriate risks in business and retrain our people after university is over ( we do the primary school through university very well then totally drop the ball after people start their careers ). So our unemployment rate is higher, we have fewer huge successes in business, and we lose some of our brightest because of it. On the flip side, we take care of those not doing well far better then the US does.

If either country would borrow from the other in terms of what they do better, they'd improve their outlook. Canada is slowly trying to embrace more risk taking in business; the emergence of Toronto as an IT growth center is a good sign in that regard. Toronto was never an IT center 20-30 years ago; most of the start ups were in Ottawa, Waterloo, and to a lesser degree Vancouver.

Your ideas about "clear factual data" are often completely wrong. You attack anyone who refuses to accept your flawed version of reality. Like the "housing crash" you insisted was occurring in Toronto one year when the appraised value of my home was flat to up as much as 9% that year. We could all hope you'd reform in this regard and become a more aware, understanding person, but apparently not it seems. When you continue to act in this way, it's really hard to care what you post.

Canada is doing far better on numerous fronts then you and some other Americans on here would ever care to admit. You can hand pick news stories all you want to support your negative bias there just is no point to it.

Some posters ideas about what "fact based" is defies common sense. When the posters insist on these opinions and are unwilling to hear any blowback on their opinions it's hard to care what they think. Too much ego and American pride in play here; they really think Canadians won't put up a fight.

So tell us about the Canadian healthcare system. Tell us about the private providers widely used in Toronto. Tell us about how 10% of the Canadian population has come to the U.S. to have one or more medical procedures performed -- such as MRIs and surgeries -- usually on their own dime. Tell us about the lengthy wait time by province in Canada for surgical procedures. Tell us how Canada is ranked only one slot above the U.S. in healthcare while Canada is ranked last of all the western nations with socialized healthcare. Tell us how the education gap in Canada between whites and blacks is worse than even the lowest U.S. state ranked in the bottom. Tell us about your treatment of the First Nations people.

These are all truths -- all proven with data from the Canadian government -- but you deny any of them while continually attacking the U.S.

I will admit that I was incorrect about the Toronto housing market -- but this happens to be the only thing I was incorrect about in regards to my posts about Canada.

Sadly there are numerous points where I agree Canada generally handles better than the U.S.. This includes immigration, pandemic response and public transit. I even agree that the U.S. should focus on providing a public option for medical care -- but should model our system more along the lines of Germany rather than Canada. Obamacare is a mess and basically a giveaway to the pharma and insurance industry.

That is crap and you know it. I live in BC and those among the left that have gone completely overboard are in stark contrast to many in Central and Northern BC who are strongly conservative. It goes through all parts of life, university education, issues relating to first nations, fishing and hunting rights and regulations, firearms regulations, "decolonialization" at campuses and in government. Hardly anyone argues fact based, it's all a huge blur of emotions and feelings.
