Can you beat the market?

"Thanks man. Can you back up your statement and contradict mine?"

That's why
Of course, I want to know why people could beat the market, I already know some people believe so. I don't see any trolling, also I'm not a native speaker so I might have chosen the wrong words, but trust me I'm here to learn not to troll.

The best way to learn??? Log off ET and spend your quality time on your charts!!!

What is it you are interested in knowing how to do? "Beat the market" tells little. Do you want to learn to trade (difficult) or you just interested in outperforming the S&P or some other benchmark (not nearly as difficult).

Why outperforming the S&P is less difficult than trade?

So your trading is based on charts analysis?

I best the market and in 1994 even won yearly contest with 216%, but none of this matters in terms of you beating the market. It not signals or winning percentages for me, swing to longer term is controlling losing % and getting risk to reward insanely low.

Much much charting

Yes, you can beat the market! This simple system beats QQQ (extrapolated to 1991) by about 25%. How's it work? Simple, on the last trading day of the month, if QQQ is above the 200 day SMA, stay long if already long. If not long, get long. If QQQ is below the 200DMA at the end of the month go to cash or stay in cash. That's it! :)

Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
This is a question I've been asking myself for a long time now. I know that theoretically it should be possible to beat the market, but why hedge funds don't make it? Can an average person beat the market with trading? I've seen some videos of Ben Felix who says that beating the market consistenly for years is nearly impossible and not even Warren Buffet has beaten the market in the last years. The thing is, hedge funds have everything available: smart people educated in the subject, supercomputer etc, but they still fail. I don't want to discourage everyone, I'm just a newbie.
No, I have not beat the market yet year to year. Still trying.

You're getting lost via the comparison of trading (you said - ...beat the market with trading) versus investing (you said - ...not even Warren Buffet has beaten the market in the last years).

Therefore, ask yourself that question...you a trader or an investor ???

You can then better ask your question.
