Can McCain save America ?

Quote from Gord:

President Kennedy deeply cut taxes in the early sixties and government revenues continued to grow each year...
And then Johnson increased spending a lot (for Vietnam) without either raising taxes or cutting spending and messed up the economy so bad that he didn't even run for a second term. The inflation wave of the 70s was created by Johnson and his timid economic moves. He was good for the Civil Rights movement but a terrible president wrt the war of that time and the economy.

Quote from Gord:

Tax cuts do not cause deficits - excessive government spending does. Presidents Kennedy, Reagan and Bush have demonstrated that tax cuts on a national level increase government revenue through economic stimulus.

Biiingo!!!

Called the Laffer Curve. Proven valid time and time again. Doesn't work when taxes are too low already, but it seems we are at about the correct level now.

Definitely a spending problem. Basic econ.

Which means that when you cut taxes you have to eliminate spending too. McCain understands this and is talking about it, but if he is elected and inherits a Democratic Congress, they will not play ball and will act to not cut spending in order to discredit his policies. That's what Daschle tried to do to Bush early on, and it worked in part, not perfectly. There's no better situation than when the White House and Congress play off the same sheet of music, cooperate for the good of the country. (Even then, they have to worry about renegate judges who are always legislating from the bench...)

He's talking about eliminating earmarks, taking out some programs, etc. His economic track record has been quite conservative, meaning careful, stingy. He was giving trouble to Bush too until recently too, until he saw the light :)

Your "just kidding" may not be enough. Watch out for invective mixed with laughing and stupid pics. But first it'll be some stupid conspiracy video.

But hey - he once confided in me that all his "friends and co workers that thought i was crazy." Maybe they were right...
