Can California Be Saved, or Is It Too Late?

While the law is ridiculous, the cops have to enforce the law. Idiots that try to argue with cops always lose. This guy was a jackass. Should have just accepted whatever the cops told him to do and if he wanted to fight it, fought it later or got on the news or whatever. All he did is make the situation worse. Even his wife/girlfriend with him kept telling him to stop arguing and to stop talking.

Cops will enforce the law. Make it personal and they will enjoy enforcing the law, no matter how stupid.

Honestly, who wants to ride the metro when someone's eating fish or curry? Plus I've been on metros where people eat and they're just absolute pigs.

I can meet you somewhere near halfway on this. In an ideal or functioning society, you have some consistency in enforcement and giving a warning before arresting is a civilized way of approaching that. And the cop did, I think, give a warning and the guy should have smartened up and cooperated.

The problem is that Cali is a zoo now. It is like parents who have ten kids that they let run wild and do whatever they want, wherever they want, and then get frustrated and decide to unload on one of the kids who has no frigging idea what consistency and reasonableness ever looked like. So the kids gets sent to solitary, then one of the other kids comes in and shits on the floor and shoots up while he is there.

You got some guy who has ten warrants out for his arrest being released into a Sanctuary City. Meanwhile, we are booking a guy for dropping breadcrumbs on the BART platform.

I don't disagree with any of this. But the police are enforcers. They don't write laws, and people often confuse them with that and hold them accountable for the stupidity of the law. A smart individuals doesn't hold the cop accountable, he holds the politicians accountable.

The reason politicians continue to make such asinine laws is because people don't hold them accountable.
