California Will Hike Minimum Wage To $15/Hour

Perhaps you "overlooked" the question. What's to stop all of those small business owners that supposedly support a "fair wage" from giving their employees said fair wage right now?
What makes you think they're not? But apart from that, let's see if maybe you can think it through.

On a related note, yesterday I walked into McDonalds and encountered the new kiosks for the first time. Tap tap tap and a final tap to pay and I got a receipt and a number. Waited for the number to be called and walked out with my food.

Did minimum wage rise here in Calgary, encouraging McDonalds to add kiosks? Nope. What has probably happened is that kiosks are getting cheaper thanks to mass production and... wait for it... automation in their production.

Hey guys, there's no "inflation", according to the wonks around here...They'll show you some official looking "statistics" at the right url's that will put your mind to rest about those concerns you have with higher food, healthcare, education, insurance, rents, property taxes, etc, etc...Just remember that you are probably imagining some higher cost of living...And just for good measure, this progressive push for a $15/ min wage has nothing to do with those imagined cost of living increases...

See it's got to be this way to keep rates at or near zero in perpetuity and deny that there is any inflation out there...Guys, gas is real cheap now so everyone should focus on that deflationary pressure...just don't pay attention to anything else...and just for good measure a few of the ET deflationista's will put you in your place if you speak out of line.

If it's cheaper to put in a kiosk than to have a minimum wage employee, how many more kiosks and robots will we find as minimum wage increases?

Good to see you out mixing with the hoi-polloi Rictard...It would also be fascinating to hear about how your cause for a $15/min wage will mix with the roll out of automation at just about any business that would be forced to double their employment costs...And we wonder why so many jobs have left this country.

From the business "signatories" list of your link, Freddie. You'll note Ben & Jerry's pushing for the $10.10 an hour wage. Interestingly, they still pay $9 an hour for their scoopers. Now, this is above minimum wage, but if they're so strongly supporting the $10.10 an hour initiative...why not pay it?

Because they want their competition to pay it, too.
