Cabin's journal of buys, sells, and covered calls...

Optioned (1 covered call) Resmed (RMD) for the Jan 25 $320.

The stock shot up today by over 7%...It may have to do with side effects of certain weight loss drugs. This is a good quality company that is big time into CPAP machines and equipment.

I had keep this option open (good till cancelled) at Fidelity. I thought I would get some PFOF price improvement...But no.

I hated to go each day to refill the order on the CBOE...I get up about 10:30am (Pacific) each morning...Half the trading day is over.

I got $1.95 ($195.00) for the option...Way out of the money.

Basic income...But in the back of my mind, I am wondering if it could be a buyout candidate...

I was a security guard for about 10 years on and off (before Obamacare). The security thing was for medical, dental, and 401K...Be a member of the union and work as little as possible (but keep those benefits)!! Just had to work 24 hours a week (average), to get benefits.

It still bewilders how the US does not have universal healthcare for all its citizens. In Canada we pay (last time I checked) about $36/month for medical. AND this is only if you are in a certain tax bracket otherwise its totally free. This covers EVERYTHING. I don't even know if I've paid it in years honestly...I think they may get it when you do your taxes or get a license renewal. Actually I think GST refunds go to any arrears...anyway you can't stop getting coverage lol! You have to actually leave the country and apply to have it cancelled.

The idea that healthcare is reliant upon employment benefits seems so ridiculous...whenever I see movies where the husband may lose his job and the wife is so concerned for the families well being if they lose their coverage is vexing.

I mean even Botswana has universal health care! You're whole medical system is draconian.

So much goes into about 1/3 of our economy (health care). Personal injury attorneys come into play (controlled by the Democratic Party).

Putting Cuba in that group is a joke...Give them an aspirin and say "go on your way". Also, if I need my gallbladder out in the US, it will take about a month. It can be over a year in Canada...Hence, why many Canadians come to the US for their healthcare. Or Canadians go to other countries (Singapore) for their healthcare.

Yes, the US healthcare system is a mess...Obamacare cleaned up a lot of it. Medicare is great coverage.

My mind goes back to Canada...TOO MANY GALLBLADDERS TAKEN OUT FROM OUR PROVENCE THIS YEAR...Wait till next year!!

so, if I need my gallbladder out in the US, it will take about a month. It can be over a year in Canada....

Well yeah because only a small percentage can actually afford to get coverage in the US... I'm sure Canada's waiting list would be shorter too if we cut 80% of our citizens from eligibility. :)

Three trades...One last week. I had Dupont called away...I was expecting it. I bought the stock, then optioned it just for the option premium. High rich premium, with a good dividend while I waited. It was very close to the money. The other side made some good money. I walked away (guessing) with a 10-12% annual return.

Today I went to the dogs!! I bought 200 shares of Chewy (CHWY). I put the price in last night (since I got up at 10:00am Pacific time)...Just above the low of yesterday.

So I bought the stock for $26.64. Then did a covered call (2) for the Jan 25 $27.50...I put the price in for $3.30...Got price improvement to $3.36 (Fidelity). That's fine with me.

Why Chewy?? I read something a few days ago. It said that about 1/2 of all pet owners love their animals more than themselves!! This really got me thinking...How can I profit from this??

Yeah, Chewy delivers the food, toys, accessories (my mind goes to Pets.com)...A classic blunder during the .com bubble.

Chewy is different...They make money. They are establishing a cool following (from people with money). They have vets on staff that will evaluate and send pet meds via home delivery...Not just dogs and cats, but horses, guinea pigs, ect. They are not fly by night...Like Starbucks and Apple, they have a loyal following (I believe).

No dividend...Just looking for growth and income (option) while I wait...We'll see.

Have 200 shares in Budget/Avis (CAR) in our trust.

Did a covered call for the June 25 $170. I got $$2.95 for both...$.588.62 after commissions.

As I write the stock is at $78.41.

I'll just grab the rich premium...I also wonder what (and when) will happen if Hertz goes under.

I enjoy your journal Cabin but why would you wish to hold this dog any longer than necessary?

In the US, there is a safety net for those without health insurance. It is the county hospital system, they will treat uninsured and low income individuals, even illegals. It is not perfect but they by law cannot turn anyone away.
