A living wage would be a good benchmark.

The average Democrat wants to be able to live off minimum wage? Why?

Last I checked minimum wage jobs were for highschoolers to do for a couple hours to get gas money on the weekends. Not full time jobs made for adults to live on

What kind of adults only skill is taking a fast food order anyways?

Regulations for safety and related stuff I support. I support child labor laws. I even support some form of a minimum wage.

But the movement now -- including the idiotic article from the Guardian -- that somehow blames worker woes on high executive pay is simply stupid. Likewise the movement to magically define a "livable" wage and demand it be paid-- which is usually many times what the labor is economically worth (meaning any company will go bankrupt paying it) -- is equally absurd.

I think it’s not living if you don’t have a vintage Ferrari in your garage. Every business should ensure that their employees can afford one.

For those making the “living wage argument:” you say the businesses can pass the costs on by raising the prices but that causes inflation. So all of you are okay with higher prices to pass wage increases onto workers who don’t possess the skills to do other jobs. why don’t you just donate your money to community charities? So keep your burrito at 6 dollars and donate 30percent of your paycheck (and it’s pre-tax dollars) to a local charity that helps with groceries, daycare, etc expenses for those people.

I think people’s lives and time have value. If they are capable of doing the job at hand, whatever that job may be, then they should be able to live at least modestly and safely on their wages. If they are not capable of doing the job then don’t hire them. Honest labor should not rob people of their dignity by keeping them just at or below subsistence levels. What kind of a world is that?

for my employees it absolutely was the case. The inflation is in hourly employees not for skilled labor or for white collar wages.

One set of wages are being artificially pumped will be paid for from another set. Our standard of livings are higher because of cheap Chinese labor. Your chipotle burrito might only go up 10percent (which is 60cents) but what if everything else also goes up 10percent? How does that affect your standard of living?

this isn’t a Brazilian mine or a Thailandee shrimp boat (which is why your shrimp is so cheap). There’s no exploitation. In 2017 there was significant wage inflation in hourly workers; but that was dictated by market demand. Today it’s dictated by the government money printing machine.

If someone wants to earn more they can develop a skill. It’s really easy for anyone to make 50k/year in America if they develop a basic skill.
