Ali would have literally killed him with one punch. I don't even know why that was a discussion back then. He should have been contemplating whether or not he could even last with amateur boxers of the time, in his weight class.

Tarantino claims Bruce did say he could beat Ali, and that his wife definitely wrote that he could in his first biography. Maybe he changed his mind.

This was clarified by Matthew Polly already. A Tarantino claim versus people quoting Lee what he said.

Linda was quoting a TV critic. “Even the most scathing critics admitted that Bruce’s gungfu was sensational. One critic wrote: ‘Those who watched him would bet on Lee to render Cassius Clay senseless if they were put in a room and told that anything goes.”

No one has ever quoted Bruce Lee saying he would beat Cassius Clay but Both Sexton and Bolo said Lee admitted he would get killed by Ali. This was a fantasy match up along the same lines of Godzilla v. King Kong.

I am not sure of the point of trying to convince you of something that you already feel is not worth your time. I don't need to change your mind because there are so many useful approaches to training and each person has different results they are looking for.

Adapt what is useful, reject what is useless, and add what is specifically your own.

Looking to be convinced on an opinion as the Politics section shows, just eats up space and time without furthering the topic. Since I am discussing another way to workout, why do I need to convince everyone?

Look at how much space you all wasted on Lee v. Ali which I already tried to justify with facts, and the holding the barbell straight out isometric hold.

Hilarious. The joke that is Karate and the ridge hand BS. Zero power. Joe Lewis was another hack who was co-dependent in maintaining the lore. Lee at 160lbs! The dude was 130 soaking wet and an addict. Karate is a joke and there is zero power behind those strikes.

Watch the black and white footage posted early in the thread. The guy’s form was laughable. The only thing that was remotely impressive was the two finger push-up. He worked on hand/forearm strength. So he was a ripped 130lb guy that had questionable skill and worked with wires and other actors in movies.

The negative movement. They knew exactly jack shit about exercise physiology in the 60s and 70s. There is no size gains to be had from it. Lee had a great back which was accentuated by his 10% BF.

The dude was an addict who didn’t have the sense to keep hydrated. Ocho is applying 60s era exercise fads. May as well buy a ‘67 Corsair as it’s the peak of automotive tech.

Yeah, about half of the exercises are isolation, which is not to my taste, but I suppose better than some of what I see in the gym. Regarding absence of lower body work, I'm guessing he has a split routine ("tonight's workout").


I still can't see that particular hold exercise being good for the shoulders. Risk/reward.

Legs, back and chest are done on different days, not going to put the other routines in here that are off topic. Bruce was not doing squats and presses and he did bench presses like everyone else so nothing ground breaking there.

I am also doing pull up/chin up work on offdays to try and increase my max reps and strength.

Tarantino knew Bruce Lee? I never knew that. On what basis can Tarantino claim and you believe him but call bullshit on people who knew him and or researched him that specifically quoted him saying he would get killed by Ali. Case closed.

Tarnatino says "I heard him say that" Tarantino was 10 years old when Bruce died....when did they meet or on what TV interview did Bruce say that?

As for motivation to lie, he is not lying he is just claiming Bruce said it despite evidence that shows someone else said it and in direct contradiction to what Bruce Lee said.

When has Tarantino ever not acted like an arrogant asshole so if it is giving publicity to his movie why should he change his statement?

You are entitled to your opinion but to your own facts. Bruce Lee never said he could beat Ali and those who knew him personally say he never said that. He studied and admired Ali and copied his style openly.

Either way, the video that Destriero linked on youtube is all the proof one should need about the fact that Lee wouldn't be flowing like water in a fight with Ali, he'd be flowing blood... all over the canvas.

Many years ago a bunch of friends were arguing about how Bruce Lee would do in MMA today and after watching those youtube videos, almost everyone agreed he would get destroyed and his fighting skills were a joke.

Like I said in my first post in the thread, it might be of better use to apply more current training methods

It does look like Tarantino misinterpreted the excerpt from Caldwell's book.

Regarding Lee's avoiding leg day... his legs look totally proportional. He was a cut dude. Good for him. Highly motivated. He should have done more in legitimate fighting work but it didn't pay back in the day. Perhaps his form would have improved instead of wasting his time on Karate. Certainly he did what he had to do to make money and that meant manufacturing his backstory and this Karate BS.

I never bought into it because I have always known Karate was a joke, but I never knew how weak he was at the actual movements until I saw his home workout footage.

His striking was atrocious. Like really comically-bad. He wouldn't last five minutes with any competent (amateur) lightweight boxer.
