I guess there has always been politics involved in Court nominations, but it would seem this has reached the point of absurdity in the two most recent picks. Going forward, it would be nice if merit gained though wide experience and demonstrated dispassionate application of the law without regard to personal ideology were the primary attributes sought in candidates.What type of Supreme Court justice doesn't get wasted on beer every weekend. I thought a case per weekend was part of the job requirements.
I suppose the joking going on in this thread is the direct result of our losing respect for the Court due to questionable appointments by Trump and McConnell's insistence that no candidate could get so much as a hearing unless he ordained the candidate as compatible with his own agenda, which he announced as including doing "whatever it takes to assure Obama is a one term President." In other words, he told us all in plan language that he would work to see that the government failed.
