SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Some immigrant U.S. Army reservists and recruits who enlisted in the military with a promised path to citizenship are being abruptly discharged, the Associated Press has learned.

The AP was unable to quantify how many men and women who enlisted through the special recruitment program have been booted from the Army, but immigration attorneys say they know of more than 40 who have been discharged or whose status has become questionable, jeopardizing their futures.

But the recently discharged service members have had their basic training delayed, so they can't be naturalized."

I see. Their basic training was delayed pending background checks which did not prove to be satisfactory so they were let go.

Not going to worry about that just yet.

Considering overall how poorly the government has treated veterans who are born US citizens over the decades, the reported shameful treatment of non-citizens is not a surprise - it's something to be expected. In fact, I'd expect more egregious and reprehensible treatment in the not-so-distant future, especially under Donald Trump and his cabinet of neo con artists.

So these are all people who failed to clear their security background check after they joined the military. The military has discharged people including immigrants who failed to clear their background check for decades. Do you want people serving in the military who failed their background checks?

I know many people who went through the same checks. Do you think that they did not do background checks in the era when the Soviet Union was still around and screened out those with inadequate information or detrimental information? This process is nothing new and still being done the same way today as it was done in the past.

I'll take the lawyer's word over you anecdotes on this one along w/the surge in rescission and this administration history w/immigrants. No one is denying background checks were done on immigrant recruits by the way.

Some of these immigrants will now carry discharge documents that unjustly and incorrectly label them a security risk. Moreover, their path to citizenship will be delayed, perhaps permanently.
